( – Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) voiced his strong opposition to supporting funding for a future Palestinian state that might have involvement from either Hamas or the Palestinian Authority following the conclusion of Israel’s conflict with Hamas. Graham emphasized his stance by stating, “If Hamas still exists at the end of this conflict, it would signify a failure on the part of the global community.” He firmly declared that he would not allocate any resources towards a prospective Palestine if Hamas remained a significant player.

Additionally, Senator Graham expressed his skepticism about investing in the Palestinian Authority, led by President Mahmoud Abbas, characterizing it as “corrupt in the eyes of its own people.” He underscored the importance of eliminating Hamas as a non-negotiable condition before considering any investments in the Palestinian people.

In no uncertain terms, Graham asserted that he would not provide American aid if Hamas continued to exist. He also made it clear that he would not support the Palestinian Authority’s control over the Gaza Strip and West Bank.

Regarding the broader context, the United States has indicated its support for restructuring the Palestinian Authority to enable it to assume control of Gaza once the hostilities between Israel and Hamas have ceased. On the contrary, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged to prevent any such move to install the Palestinian Authority in Gaza after the conflict.

Senator Graham has been an outspoken advocate for Israel’s right to self-defense, especially following Hamas’s deadly incursion into Israel, which resulted in numerous casualties. He attributed the casualties among Palestinians to Hamas’s tactics of using civilians as human shields.

In conclusion, Senator Lindsey Graham has expressed his unwavering stance against supporting a future Palestinian state as long as Hamas remains a significant force, and he has raised concerns about the Palestinian Authority’s credibility. His position aligns with his strong support for Israel’s right to self-defense in the ongoing conflict.
