Kim Kardashian Assures CNN: “I’ve Educated” Kanye on Trump

Apparently invested in doing some damage control with her liberal Hollywood friends, Kim Kardashian appeared on CNN last week to explain to Van Jones that her husband Kanye West really wasn’t such a bad guy after all; why, he just likes Donald Trump’s personality – not his policies, God no!

“I feel like Kanye is very misunderstood and the worst communicator,” Kardashian said. “But when we talk about it, we have very similar politics. He’s not very political, actually. He just happens to like Donald Trump’s personality, but he doesn’t know about the politics. So I’ve educated him recently. And I think it gets really misconstrued.”

We can’t say we have a ton of insight into Kim Kardashian’s own political views, although she did support Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. We can assume, however, from her discussion with CNN that she’s not a big fan of Trump. And we can assume that her “education” of her husband consists of telling him all about how racist Trump is and how terrible he is for poor illegal immigrants and rap fans and small puppies, etc.

Kardashian, who has had her own Oval Office dealings with the president this year, said that Kanye saw no reason that he should stop being friends with Trump.

“He will always say that he was friendly with him before, and he’s the same person, and he’s friendly with him now,” she said. “And I can also co-exist with someone and still have different political views. I think what my husband fights for is the right to like what he wants to — even if it’s different from what you like.”

Frankly, that’s about all we ever took from Kanye’s support of Trump. We’re not sure we ever believed that he was a die-hard “MAGA” supporter or a Republican or anything like that. He’s an artist who loves to start controversy and knew there could be nothing more controversial than to put that red hat on his head and proclaim himself a Trump supporter. It never felt like it ran too deep, intellectually-speaking.

But even at that level of support, Kanye’s flirtation with conservatism had its impact. Like his wife said, Kanye wanted to fight for the right to think independently. In other words, he didn’t see why he HAD to be a Democrat just because he was a black man in America, and a famous one at that. His MAGA hat is a symbol of defiance, and if it inspired his fans to just think for a moment about escaping their own ideological prisons, it was a great thing for this country.
