(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy believes GOP Rep. Bob Good (Virginia) lost his primary.
Brian Walsh, an ally of McCarthy’s (R-California), suggested Good has been “defeated,” insisting the Virginia Republican, who he described as a “loser,” wouldn’t “accept it yet.”
A recount in the GOP primary in Virginia is still underway.
McCarthy had waded into the GOP’s primary challenge in Virginia with cash in an effort to unseat Good, part of the “Crazy Eight,” who helped strip him of his Speaker gavel in January.
Speaking to The New York Times, Walsh noted the McCarthy camp had warned of “consequences” for the Republicans who crossed the then-Speaker, adding they would be “persistent and very patient” while pursuing those consequences.
So far, McCarthy’s revenge tour has spent over $4 million trying to beat Republican Reps. Nancy Mace (South Carolina) and Eli Crane (Arizona).
Allies of the former Speaker are also backing ethics complaints against Mace and GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz (Florida).
Crane, however, told the Times he is ready to deal with the consequences of ousting McCarthy, stating he wouldn’t “be surprised if the swamp gets [him] one day,” perhaps in the next election cycle.
The Arizona Republican revealed he is OK with those consequences as he had come to Congress “to shake things up.”
He then pointed out how McCarthy could have used his revenge tour money to help rather than enact revenge.
Political strategist Steve Bannon noted that McCarthy had become “as toxic” with the GOP base “as Nancy Pelosi,” sentiments many McCarthy critics share, highlighting how his actions since being ousted as Speaker only proved he wasn’t a voice for everyone in the House.
