(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, had a phone call with Phil Gordon, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’s national security adviser. This is the first official communication since Harris launched her presidential campaign and became the presumptive Democratic nominee for the 2024 presidential election.

During the call, the two talked about the front-line situation in Ukraine, as well as the aerial assaults launched by Russia against the country’s cities and energy infrastructure. Yermek pointed out that Ukrainian air Defense needs to be boosted with modern Western systems to deal with the situation.

President Zelenskyy mentioned this call in his nightly address, highlighting Harris’s participation in the recent peace summit in Switzerland. He further pointed out that they continue to maintain the momentum towards a peace agreement and argued in favor of continuing the country’s cooperation with its international partners.
Since the start of the war, the United States has provided both financial and military aid which have been essential to Ukraine’s efforts against the Russian invasion which started in February 2022.

Biden announced that he was dropping out of the presidential race on Sunday, and Harris, who received his endorsement, was viewed as the presumptive Democratic nominee shortly after.

Despite the political dynamics in the U.S., Kyiv has maintained a stance of neutrality regarding American domestic politics, expressing willingness to work with any elected U.S. leader. A Ukrainian official, speaking anonymously, emphasized that Harris’s potential foreign policy would likely be characterized by continuity.

This call between Yermak and Gordon is a reflection of the continuing diplomatic efforts to ensure that support for Ukraine would continue despite the changes in the political landscape in the U.S.
