The White House is preparing for VP Kamala Harris to play an important role during the 2024 campaign season.

Harris, during her time as vice President has been plagued by low approval rates and criticisms from both fronts. Despite this, she continues to be an important person in Biden’s sphere and his reelection campaign, where the president’s age could prove to be a key issue with many voters. For this reason, the White House is working to build up Harris’ popularity ahead of a likely rematch against former President Donald Trump.

One former Democratic campaign official has said that “There is an effort to re-launch her.” They added that they are not exactly trying to “improve her” but rather to give her a “higher profile.” When referring to Biden’s team’s prior attempts to diminish Harris’s profile, the same official argued that “I don’t think there are any regrets.”

This week, when Biden launched his reelection video, Harris was featured for quite a big portion of the video, with her and second gentleman Doug Emhoff appearing only 15 seconds into the three-minute video. This is a clear sign that the campaign was planning on using her as an asset in order to connect with important voting blocs.

White House officials also appear to believe that Harris has managed to establish herself as a leading voice within the administration fighting against the GOP efforts to restrict abortion access. Only hours after the campaign launch, Harris appeared in an event that was focused on reproductive rights.
