(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Florida Judge Aileen Cannon is potentially going to grant former President Donald Trump’s request to have the pretrial hearing in the classified documents case delayed. Trump’s legal team has been trying to get the cases against him delayed for months.
On Wednesday, Cannon stated during a hearing that she could not realistically see how all of the work would be completed within such a brief timeframe especially considering the current “realities” that they are “facing.” The trial was originally scheduled to start on May 20th, but Trump has been pushing for the trial to take place after the 2024 presidential election.
Trump who is the frontrunner of the Republican presidential primary might also seek to have the case completely dismissed if he ends up being elected as the president.
Cannon, during the hearing, stated that because of the legal complexities surrounding the handling of classified documents, the schedule that was originally decided on in July might be unrealistic. She noted that because of this she was going to create a new timeline “as soon as possible.”
For months Trump’s legal team has been arguing that they are only allowed to review classified documents in a special secure room in South Florida. The documents in question were the ones found in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate and Trump’s lawyers have the right to review all the pieces of evidence.
Cannon who was appointed as District Court Judge by Trump stated that “reasonable adjustments” needed to be made to the deadline; however, while those would affect the pretrial filings, she did not mention any changes or delay to the actual trial date.
