Jindal Warns of Liberal Education Standards

Governor Bobby Jindal has a less-than-promising shot at securing the Republican presidential nomination, but he has a bright future in the party nonetheless. A one-time supporter of Common Core, Jindal’s home state of Louisiana is now in the middle of a lawsuit against the controversial standards. And from his remarks Wednesday in New Hampshire, Jindal doesn’t appear to want another federal set of standards to take their place.

“I don’t think the federal government should be adopting one-size-fits-all standards,” Jindal told a crowd in Manchester. “What if President Obama’s administration were proposing American history standards? What kind of American history would we be teaching? It would be about victimhood. It wouldn’t be about American exceptionalism. It would be about America’s shortcomings and failures from a president who I don’t believe believes in American exceptionalism.”

Jindal’s only problem here is that he’s just a little behind the curve. We’ve already seen Common Core make mincemeat of American history in many of their recommended texts. In their Advanced Placement standards, the guidelines advocate emphasizing the white supremacy among early colonial settlers. They Gettysburg Address is being taught to 10th graders free of any context. Kids are being encouraged to revise the Bill of Rights according to a more modern interpretation. One world history book was found to have 72 pages devoted to Islam while affording the other two major world religions only cursory paragraphs.

1984 is here.

It is perhaps fair to note that there is no such thing as de-politicized history. History is subject to bias, both cultural and authorial. What gets remembered? What gets left out? What gets emphasized? What gets downplayed? One version may be more wrong or more right than another, but as long as the book can pass a fact check (a system with its own set of biases), it’s down to a matter of opinion.

So then we have a choice. What version of American history do we teach the next generation? The one that makes them feel sick and ashamed of their country and their culture? Or the one that empowers them with patriotism and wisdom? All other things being equal – all the facts are in place, all the most obvious POV biases have been eliminated – which version serves students best? This isn’t about propaganda as some liberals claim; this is about perspective.

If you want to fill your private universities with the dark side of American history, have at it. It exists. It should be known, remembered, and studied. Our mistakes as a nation were as important to our destiny as our triumphs.

But when it comes to children getting their first taste of the world, their country, and how everything fits together, why not begin on a positive note? Life is tough enough without shouldering the burdens of history. Shame and scorn extinguish the passion that kids naturally have for the future.

This is about more than Common Core, of course. This is about our country’s determination to keep all the old skeletons alive and dancing and singing: everything you ever believed is wrong, Hi Ho, Hi Ho, and everything you have now is a result of racism, He Hi, Ho He.

It’s time to change the tune.

Pull your children out of public schools and home school them now! Stop the Government indoctrination.

    • Same plan as Hitler……Dept. of Education must be scrapped, closed, shut-down, defunded ASAP.

    • Actually, R.C., you are the moron or should I say the “liberal troll”. Might even be one of those liberally educated people still living in their parents basement. So Louisiana is going to implode because the governor doesn’t want the children of his state to be taught about socialism/communism and how to hate America? You really do need a reality check.

      • When is the moron right going to learn that liberals post facts.

“Louisiana’s budget is a fiscal mess: How did we get here?”

Louisiana is facing a $1.6 billion budget shortfall.
The funding gap is so large that state officials have warned they won’t
be able to conduct their usual Advanced Placement tests and other types
of assessments in schools next year. Some public colleges and
universities might have to close and, until recently, the secretary of
state’s office was saying it wouldn’t have enough money to run the
        presidential primary next spring.

Things have gotten so dire, lawmakers said, that Gov. Bobby Jindal has proposed rolling back some tax credits he refused to touch three years ago, when some legislators broached the topic to address a more modest fiscal crisis.”

So Maxx, considering you are obviously short a loaf, why didn’t you just look it up before confirming your not to bright on the internet?

I await your links proving you’re not a complete idiot

      • I am still waiting for your links of rebuttal.

Are you bailing on me Max or have you come to the conclusion that you’re an ignorant human.

    • Nothing crazy about the truth.

    • Well with Obama in the White house the jihadist he is, he has completely destroyed the Middle east and the rest of the world is going down the tube as well. Thanks to his promotion of the most heinous and murderous ideology in the world, ISLAM. He has almost destroyed America and is working on it day and night. We are in debt Trillions of dollars, and he’s bringing in as many illegals and jihadist to try to completely destroy us. We are almost a third world Country now. NO jobs for Americans, every one wants a hand out, and race relations the worse I have seen in 50 years thanks to the jihadi traitor. So who is really causing the implosion here? It isn’t Jindal destroying our entire Country while he plays golf, it is Obama, traitor that he is!

      • WHERE DO YOU GET THIS SHIT?

        • Reality Check, who’s reality are you listening to? When you don’t have a rational answer you resort to name calling. Since when is a debate measured by how many times you can TRY to demean the other view. Let’s start at the beginning. COMMON CORE was started by a professor with absolutely no experience in school protocol. Also, was not an English teacher and absolutely no experience in forming a curriculum or text books. He followed all the directions from his boss Obama. There’s a lot of hatred for OUR country and it starts with Obama. Secondly, all school boards were told if you don’t accept CC federal money will be withheld from your district. Thirdly, ALL TEXTBOOKS were mandated by CC. Outside materials were not allowed. (a teacher was fired because she brought some material that she thought her students would find interesting) (a man as arrested when he spoke up at a school board meeting. He protested about the pornography in one of the books). History of OUR country is extremely inaccurate.

I won’t go on with the damage CC is causing in our schools. I’ll just end with two questions. Have you actually seen a textbook? Please, read one, especially the History Book. Have you heard what the professor said during a speech where he tried to justify what was in it. As he was walking back and forth across the stage he made a comment that many Liberal and Conservative media didn’t follow-up. He said they had to keep it under wraps until it was totally complete. “STUPID AMERICANS” is who he and Obama were keeping it from.

So, I think YOU should do some research and get to the bottom of what CC actually is. They changed College Entrance Exams so the answers where ONLY found in their educational(?) system.

One more observation. It’s the person’s OPINION, there’s no right or wrong in an Opinion. They have their’s and you have yours. Debate comes in when you try to convince the other person’s view to yours. Name calling just shows that you can’t offer your side without being obtuse.

My only worry is that people who read your very limited facts (which are mostly wrong) will take your point of view and pass it on to their friends. You keep asking show me the proof or the web links. We’ll, I don’t play that game. YOU look up each point they made, it’s not that hard.

I must warn you, I don’t get involved in any debate where there is no logical respnse, only name calling. If you use that tactic, you will not get a reply from me.

          • Well not well-informed conservative,
you start off by lying about who started common core, AND don’t even have the balls to post a link to prove your crap.

Any moron can post shit on the Internet, is a see you do right now.

THAT IS NOT MAKE IT TRUE.

I have posted links proving what I say.

            Conservatives don’t get a pass.

You want to pretend you’re intelligent, PROVE IT.

At the moment you just another bloviating conservative.

          • I’m not into name calling because I can present my opinion in a cohesive manner. I wanted to let you hang yourself with all that name calling to people that don’t agree with your limited knowledge of Common Core. You only pick out sentences that you think will provide facts to you twisted understanding. If you would continue reading about Common Core, there ARE TEXTBOOKS. Also I believe it states that several mathematicians composed the CURRICULUM for the MATH TEXTBOOK. I won’t bother with all the other wrong items in your posts, since it would be a waste of my time. All I can tell you is to READ EVERYTHING ABOUT COMMON CORE! Don’t go calling people names until you have thoroughly researched COMMON CORE as you are mistaken in a lot of your posts. As far as taking your wife’s word that there are NO TEXTBOOKS, I think she’s not working at a school. COMMON CORE was implemented when TEACHERS were TAUGHT HOW TO TEACH COMMON CORE. I find that hard to believe since there are no textbooks. If you read it carefully they claim that the teacher is able to teach the course as she sees fit. Then why do they have to instruct teachers on the PROPER way of teaching. Much is said about how they will learn, but TESTS are structured in a way that the ONLY answers will be CORRECT if they follow the TEXTBOOKS. I can see that you’re going to make up something again, so don’t bother with a reply unless it will make you feel better. My only advice to you is to RESEARCH any subject you’re going to comment on and forget the name calling. Also, you didn’t mention that SEVEN STATES REJECTED COMMON CORE. Think about all those posts you made and were WRONG but still called names of those that didn’t agree with you. You know there’s always TWO OR MORE ways you can comment, but your way is just call them names. I think you are very insecure and with the replies you give I also believe you have no friends. READ AND STUDY some more, it will benefit you in the long run. Also, it might give you some idea how conduct a proper discourse. Good Luck!!

          • ” COMMON CORE was started by a professor with absolutely no experience in school protocol.”

            COMPLETE BULL SHIT

AND the liberal will post a link improve Wolfman is full of bull shit.

            From the state of Arizona.
Are they liberal now silly conservative?

            http://www.mpsaz.org/curriculum/commoncore/com-cor-pub-and-update/files/azpet_myths_and_facts_1.pdf

This link shows that Wolfman is one of the more ignorant human beings commenting about common core.

          • ” Have you actually seen a textbook?”

            Well no moron I haven’t.
That is because common core does not supply textbooks, or lesson plans, or a curriculum.

It’s a set of freaking standards low info human.

My wife is a teacher dealing directly with common core on a daily basis.
She would kill force Applied Materials.
Everything has to be made up from scratch by the teachers, by the school districts.

            STOP LYING ON THE INTERNET

We don’t know where you get your information from.
            Apparently out of your ass

  3. Common Core IS here. It needs to be uprooted and thrown out of the schools. Wakeup!

    • Home School your children.

Especially the ones you love. 🙂

    • FULL Common Core isn’t her, yet. So there is still a chance to stop it. Full common core involves all sorts of information gathering, not only about the student but also about family members and their history (medical, social and school/so much for privacy); testing and pigeon holing students, based on the testing results and family information, into various career paths; and keeping the “students” on their ASSIGNED career paths. We are from the government and we are here to tell you what to think and do.

      • I know the FULL COMMON CORE isn’t here yet, but as Obama’s lackey said ‘we are stupid’ and it would be easy to do it. The Obama administration is trying to put people in jail or take their kids away if you school them. One of my friends home schooled both of his kids, and they scored very high on the old test (SAT). So if you do it right you’re much better off home schooling yourself or I suppose you could have anyone do it for you. If we wait too long, common core might not be reversed. They’re already trying to push it to various school districts. And they go along with it because they’re threatened with withholding tax monies. He who holds the money makes the rules. I say withhold our tax money, but it would only be possible if a very large amount of people would agree to do it. By the Constitution, the IRS is an illegal government agency. Other agencies are also unconstitutional, like the Department of Education. You can go to almost any government agency and see that they are UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

      • NWO wants to know all, it’s the liberal socialist way.

    • Gov.Jindal is absolutely correct in opposing the one-size-fits-all standards. In fact, the education of our children is a matter that is not delegated in out constitution to the federal government.—it is a matter that was left for the states to decide.

      • Not even the states should decide what propaganda to push to students. Limit it to facts. Like 2+2=4. Don’t apply “standards” to viewpoints. Beethoven once had a music professor tell him that a certain musical phrasing was not permitted….Beethoven replied “I permit it”. And that was that….few can name the professor, but we all can name Beethoven..

  4. The USA had the best schools in the world…before the federal government got involved in education.

    • When they stopped teaching the FOUR R’s and started worrying about how many different Restrooms were needed, hiring sexual perverts to teach, taking down the TEN COMMANDMENTS (or calling them just suggestions) the quality of Public Education in this Country went from TOP NOTCH to zero, zip, nada, zilch……

    • Another very important factor in bringing our education from among the best in the world down to the level of Zimbabwe – formation of teacher unions starting in 1965.

  5. Communist core

  6. If the red states want to raise morons then so be it !!! The rest of the kids in the country will be the ones getting the high paying jobs !!!

    • Tell me what states have the highest graduation rates and SAT scores? It sure isn’t the blue or purple ones. In fact it’s the states with the highest number of students involved in “home schooling”.

  7. Remove it when obama is removed, period end of story. The history that needs to be taught is the one about obama trying to rewrite American history as well as his fundamental transformation of America and his redistribution of wealth. Just like hitler they knew if they got to the chidren they could brainwash them into the next voters and adults to support them and their crazy ideas!.

  8. I want to hear people more from people who once supported Common Core and changed their mind…..these are the people who are most believable. MAHB001 has it perfect (below) quoting Lenin. We should never give our children’s mind to one source of curriculum (least of all the federal government). Education is a state function, and should remain so.

    • I just heard Mike Huckabee on Fox News Sunday admit that he had supported Common Core when it first came out but now wants it eliminated. He said the government has made immense changes to make it impossible to accept in any form whatsoever.

      • My understanding of CC is that it was developed by people not in education. When a state signs onto it, the material is copyrighted so it locks teachers into what they are teaching. I think it is clear that the curriculum is brain washing our kids instead of teaching them the time honored fundamentals of education. Further complicating the process is the apparent disproportional amount of leftee teachers that are always making the news for their dumb theatrics the public finds out about.

        • “My understanding of CC is that it was developed by people not in education”

Well your understanding is completely wrong.

          http://www.mpsaz.org/curriculum/commoncore/com-cor-pub-and-update/files/azpet_myths_and_facts_1.pdf

The nation’s governors and education commissioners, through their
representative organizations, the National Governors Association Center
for Best Practices (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers
(CCSSO), led the development of the Common Core State Standards and
continue to lead the initiative. Teachers, parents, school
administrators, and experts from across the country, together with state
leaders, provided input into the development of the standards.

The actual implementation of the Common Core, including how the
standards are taught, the curriculum developed, and the materials used
to support teachers as they help students reach the standards, is led
entirely at the state and local levels.

          STOP LYING ON THE INTERNET

          • you wrote “National Governors Association Center
for Best Practices (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), led the development of the Common Core State Standards and continue to lead the initiative. Teachers, parents, school administrators, and experts from across the country, together with state
leaders, provided input into the development of the standards” That’s the problem….standards. They are seldom objective and even if they were, they force regimentation, which is something certain to kill genius. Regimentation does not produce an Einstein or a Bach or a Beethoven. What DOES happen with regimentation is indoctrination..

          • I’m sorry if I’m making up this stuff. But, look at my post way down this page. I don’t think I’m lying, but that’s for you to decide.

    • Common core is not a curriculum you silly conservative.
      It’s a set of standards.
There are no textbooks, there are no lesson plans, just a set of goals for students to achieve.

We are already an under educated country, thanks to backward conservatives.

      http://www.mpsaz.org/curriculum/commoncore/com-cor-pub-and-update/files/azpet_myths_and_facts_1.pdf

      • backward liberals make tyrannical decisions in educating kids. Remember Mao’s “Little Red book”, or do you even know what that was? Setting standards of achievement is hardly distinguishable from setting curricula. That is because objectivity is not on the side of the standards-setters. Again, as I told in a previous post, a music professor told Beethoven that a certain concept was not permitted, and Beethoven replied “I permit it”. Touche.

      • See my post way down the page. No need to reply since this not a discussion, but a one way name calling.
Check my rather long post. It should be pretty enlightening!

    • it should not even be a state function. There should be NO control of education curriculum by people who are not geniuses…PERIOD.

  9. For me, Common Core is a mixed bag. I have studied it and find that it has some benefits to it such as ridding classrooms of teach-to-the-test programs that teachers’ unions favored. But it is a one size fit all program. It is not a doable plan for some school districts. As such, Idaho has made it a choice for school districts to try. Some have but many have not. some have used it in modified form with good success.
As for distortion of history, no one volume of history can even begin to hold all the actual data pertaining to our country. Since that is my college major, I see and understand the problem. So some sort of pick and choose is needed to produce a collection of historical data. But it is better done by historians than politicians. I deal with what I call, bar room tales of the past, on a constant basis. The internet is full of undocumented ‘historical” information. I rely more on legal documentation for sources of historical information.

      check this out.

pretty much puts a nail in all the EVIL CC conspiracy theories

unless of course conservatives want to pretend Arizona has gone liberal.

      • Reality,
I read your info on Arizona. I had gotten material here on CC and how it works including testing. I am also aware of what is happening her with CC. I believe I stared that CC is not government mandated nor created. It is an option here and is being used by some school districts. Others have chosen to modify it to fit their own needs. That would not happen if CC was being federally mandated.
I find it better than the old plans being used here. But our previous plan was pathetic and I have opposed it since I went to college in the early 1970’s. I hope everyone who makes ridiculous claims will read what you sent.

  10. All states that accepted Common Core did so because the whole premise of it was a lie. PERIOD! All states should join Louisiana and throw it out of their states. Common Core IS the socialist/communist agenda being shoved down the throats of our children, plain and simple. Any politician or state school superintendent that supports it needs to be fired or impeached. America has no room for a communist education system. Every school should be forced to have textbook and classroom monitors for the sole purpose of rooting out and exposing the teaching of socialist/communist educational agenda courses. Teachers that blatantly expose their students to any type of their political bias need to be fired. That is why classroom monitors or video recordings need to be created. Liberal teachers cannot be believed to keep their political views to themselves.

    • Maxx some of what you say is true, but Liberalism, socialist and communist have nothing to do with the US eroding schools system. First only a few people managed to kick God out the classrooms, then they worked and changed the American Pledge of Allegiance, gave Homosexuals the rights to use either restrooms, school districts having a hard time getting rid of bad teachers, with the teachers unions stopping most firings.

      Comments
      From a High School Principal

      Very interesting
      approach for a principal!

      High School
      Principal

      Every concerned
citizen should read this. . .)

We watched Dennis Prager of Colorado, along with Sara Palin and Tom
Brokaw on TV a couple of weeks ago….what a dynamic, down to earth
speaker. Even though Palin and Brokaw were also guest speakers they
did little but nod and agree with him. This is the guy that should be
      running for President in 2012!

      A Speech Every American
      High School Principal Should Give….

      By Dennis Prager.

To the students and faculty of our high school:

I am your new principal, and honored to be so. There is no greater
calling than to teach young people.

I would like to apprise you
of some important changes coming to our school. I am making these
changes because I am convinced that most of the ideas that have
dominated public education in America have worked against you, against
your teachers and against our country.

      First, this school will no
longer honor race or ethnicity. I could not care less if your racial
makeup is black, brown, red, yellow or white. I could not care less
if your origins are African, Latin American, Asian or European, or if
your ancestors arrived here on the Mayflower or on slave ships.
his only identity I care about, the only one this school will recognize, is your
individual identity — your character, your scholarship, your
humanity. And the only national identity this school will care about
      is American.
      This is an American
public school, and American public schools were created to make
better Americans. If you wish to affirm an ethnic, racial or
religious identity through school, you will have to go elsewhere. We
will end all ethnicity, race and non-American nationality-based
celebrations. They undermine the motto of America, one of its three
central values — e pluribus Unum, “from many, one.” And
this school will be guided by America’s values. This includes all
after-school clubs. I will not authorize clubs that divide students
based on any identities. This includes race, language, religion,
sexual orientation or whatever else may become in vogue in a society
      divided by political correctness.
      Your clubs will be based
on interests and passions, not blood, ethnic, racial or other
physically defined ties. Those clubs just cultivate narcissism — an
unhealthy preoccupation with the self — while the purpose of
education is to get you to think beyond yourself. So we will have
clubs that transport you to the wonders and glories of art, music,
astronomy, languages you do not already speak, carpentry and more. If
the only extracurricular activities you can imagine being interested
in are those based on ethnic, racial or sexual identity, that means
that little outside of yourself really interests you.
      Second, I am uninterested
in whether English is your native language. My only interest in
terms of language is that you leave this school speaking and writing
English as fluently as possible. The English language has united
America’s citizens for over 200 years, and it will unite us at this
school. It is one of the indispensable reasons this country of
immigrants has always come to be one country. And if you leave this
school without excellent English language skills, I would be remiss
in my duty to ensure that you will be prepared to successfully
compete in the American job market. We will learn other languages
here — it is deplorable that most Americans only speak English –but
if you want classes taught in your native language rather than in
English, this is not your school.
      Third, because I regard
learning as a sacred endeavor, everything in this school will reflect
learning’s elevated status. This means, among other things, that you
and your teachers will dress accordingly. Many people in our society
dress more formally for Hollywood events than for church or school.
These people have their priorities backward. Therefore, there
will be a formal dress code at this school.
      Fourth, no obscene
language will be tolerated anywhere on this school’s property —
whether in class, in the hallways or at athletic events. If you can’t
speak without using the f-word, you can’t speak. By obscene language
I mean the words banned by the Federal Communications Commission,
plus epithets such as “Nigger,” even when used by one black
student to address another black, or “bitch,” even when
addressed by a girl to a girlfriend. It is my intent that by the time
you leave this school, you will be among the few your age to
instinctively distinguish between the elevated and the degraded, the
      holy and the obscene.

      Fifth, we will end all
self-esteem programs. In this school, self-esteem will be attained in
only one way — the way people attained it until decided otherwise a
generation ago — by earning it. One immediate consequence is that
there will be one valedictorian, not eight.
      Sixth, and last, I am
reorienting the school toward academics and away from politics and
propaganda. No more time will be devoted to scaring you about smoking
and caffeine, or terrifying you about sexual harassment or global
warming. No more semesters will be devoted to condom wearing and
teaching you to regard sexual relations as only or primarily a health
issue. There will be no more attempts to convince you that you are a
victim because you are not white, or not male, or not heterosexual or
not Christian. We will have failed if any one of you graduates this
school and does not consider him or herself inordinately lucky — to
be alive and to be an American.
      Now, please stand and join
me in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of our country. As many of
you do not know the words, your teachers will hand them out to you.

      • suggest we find a way to eliminate the teachers union unions are not for the people anymore they are more for the union and how much monies they can get out of union members Oh and this has been going on since the late seventies when government started interfering with our schools systems common core is to dumn up our young so that they believe anything the government tells them thats how we will become a socialist state

        • common core was developed by the state of Arizona in a couple other red states like Idaho and Florida.

Have those states turned into communist socialist states now?
Wow I didn’t know that. Here is a fact sheet from Arizona explaining that you are not well informed.

          http://www.mpsaz.org/curriculum/commoncore/com-cor-pub-and-update/files/azpet_myths_and_facts_1.pdf

          • Written mostly by academics and assessment experts—many with ties to testing companies—the Common Core standards have never been fully implemented and tested in real schools anywhere. Of the 135 members on the official Common Core review panels convened by Achieve Inc., the consulting firm that has directed the Common Core project for the NGA, few were classroom teachers or current administrators. Parents were entirely missing. K–12 educators were mostly brought in after the fact to tweak and endorse the standards—and lend legitimacy to the results.

      • This describes the education system when I was a child. But even then the truth of history was not taught. They distorted most history to satisfy political correctness fifty years ago.

    • “Common Core IS the socialist/communist agenda being shoved down the throats of our children, plain and simple”

But Max, common core was developed by the state of Arizona in a couple other red states like Idaho and Florida.

Have those states turned into communist socialist states now?
      Wow I didn’t know that.

Here is a fact sheet from Arizona explaining that Max is a moron.
      http://www.mpsaz.org/curriculum/commoncore/com-cor-pub-and-update/files/azpet_myths_and_facts_1.pdf

      • you wrote “Max is a moron”. Another example of objective discourse that you falsely claim you practice. I am really bad with names. So can I just call you sh*t-head?

  11. The acceptance of common core by ANY state, was done because it was apparently much too difficult to read by our Governers, State Senate and Representitives what it was all about. Word of mouth, lying mouths to be exact pushed this BS. Right McCommunist and Bemoaner? One lying, one crying,
This is the worst program ever devised, worked well in Russia, China, and Germany.

  12. This common core SHIT has to be stopped!!This process is corrupting the minds of our children. If you believe
your child is being corrupted by this kind of learning, take them out of that school and HOME SCHOOL THEM!!
Doing this, you can teach your children the correct way without all of the crap being shoved down their throats!!.
Common core learning is JUNK LEARNING.Why should the child have to go through TEN STEPS to solve the
problem when it only takes TWO STEPS with conventional learning?????

    • Bruce you have no idea what common core even is.
Your ignorant of the fact that common core was developed by several red states, including Arizona.
The federal government had nothing to do with this.

Here’s a faxing from state of Arizona, which unless they become a bunch of liberals, you are going to have to accept this fact
      http://www.mpsaz.org/curriculum/commoncore/com-cor-pub-and-update/files/azpet_myths_and_facts_1.pdf

It is going to tell you that you are extremely ignorant about what common core is

      • you are the ignorant one. The very MOTIVE of standardization can be destructive to ingenuity and innovation. I don’t give a rat’s butt who does it. As an engineer who uses math constantly, I have seen the math product of Common Core crap and it is sure to
set science and math back not forward. Thinking and reasoning do not
happen in a controlled (or as you libtards say, “standardized”)
        environment.

    • “Why should the child have to go through TEN STEPS to solve the
problem when it only takes TWO STEPS with conventional learning?????”

Well Bruce, first off your exaggerating about 10 steps.
But they do want you to solve problems in a more intricate manner.

That is to build stronger minds, with better reasoning abilities, and better critical thinking skills, which obviously you missed when you were in school.
Common core was also developed by Arizona and several other states.

It has nothing to do with the federal government, for its development

      Read this stop being ignorant.
      http://www.mpsaz.org/curriculum/commoncore/com-cor-pub-and-update/files/azpet_myths_and_facts_1.pdf

    • As an engineer who uses math constantly, the Common Core crap is sure to set science and math back not forward. Thinking and reasoning do not happen in a controlled (or as you libtards say, “standardized”) environment.

  13. GET THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF EDUCATION.

    • See Brenda, the federal government does not control the education system.

You may have noticed in your last election that you voted for school board members, for both local and state office.
      Do you know why Brenda?

Because the schools are controlled locally.

Who sets the number of days kids go to school? The state
who sets the curriculum children are to learn? The state,

Who pays 90% of the budget? State and local taxes.

Stop spreading stupid shit on the Internet

      • What is sounding stupid is your insistence that school curricula need “control”. See my previous remark about Beethoven. Einstein was not a product of local or state or fed “control”.

        • well since cons like to whine about |federal control” of the education system, what other word would you like to use?

I think you get the point, right?

Einstein & Beethoven were a product of good genetics not a good education, silly con.

          • So now you’re a classical musician expert. Beethoven’s attitude, not his
education OR his genes, made him go with individualism. It’s all about
ATTITUDE, and a healthy one, unlike you libtards who are sheeple people.
Swallowing every ounce of commie-crap you can ingest. Furthermore,
education in Beethoven’s time was not at odds with individualism unlike
today’s conformity crap in unions, standards setters, etc. Enjoy your
            acid rock, dunthrunt.

    • “When students have no concept of the differences between
      socialism/communism/fascism/democracy. and our representative republic
form of governance; then we are indeed in a sad shape.”

I have news for you Brenda, you have demonstrated to me that you have no concept of what communism or socialism or fascism ARE.

You are hardly one to judge.

And yes Brenda the English language does change.
Do you really think we speak the same as we did in 1950?

Did they have smart phones in 1950?
      Twitter?

How about we use some common sense.
The world is going to move forward whether you kick and scream or not.

      • yep, the world goes forward alright…..straight into beheadings, male domination, Islam, Shariah Law, Greek finances, national debt explosion, abortion on demand, and all other things progressive. When will you “progressive” libs realize that YOU are the pimples on the ass of progress?

    • Isn’t it odd that without common core the education system produced geniuses like Einstein, Bell, and Edison? And how did we ever function without Michelle Obama making menus for school lunches?

  14. It is time to give the full education. US history is so gerrymandered that the full scope is lost and people are deceived.

  15. Since when does a liberal education have standards? “Standards” aren’t understood by liberals.

  16. trueblueam@yahoo.com

As a 37 years hs social studies teacher, I see many wrongs being done to US history in the name of political correctness and consensus (liberalism). Socialism is lauded above all other systems especially republicanism and capitalism. We celebrate Islam as if it were more American than apple pie as girls wear hijabs, etc.. I have been watching the curriculum fed to my 8year old nephew and I am appalled! This is not education but indoctrination. This has been happening for decades but today, it is no secret. The truth is out and obvious. You can’t love your nation and want to see it survive and promote freedom for all if all you do is complain about how bad we have always been. Our students are not receiving truth. My advice to anyone interested…..home school or find a private school if you can afford it.

    • I know it. I am so concerned about the future of our children and grandchildren. They are removing the Ten Commandments and any mention of Jesus or the God of the Bible from the public square after removing them from the schools first. How come the ACLU is suing Florida for having elementary school students make an Islamic prayer rug, in Oklahoma, the school had them out on the lawn bowing down to allah as an Iman prayed the Islamic Declaration of Faith, and In N. Carolina a lady had photos, that I copied and saved of an assignment which had questions like, ” don’t Islamic believers have more faith than Christians’, and “imagine what it would be like to be with Muhammad.” I don’t want children doing any such thing! ISLAM is a Satanic ideology of hate and murder, pure and simple, nothing more, and we have the government and schools feeding this garbage to our children, while they can’t talk about Jesus? What has happened to our Country? Why aren’t the parents at these schools up in arms, and demanding that this junk be stopped? Does no one care what their kids are being taught. If they are teaching this crap in your schools sue them like the communist left sues Christians. If you can’t talk about Jesus or God in public or in public schools then ISLAM can’t be taught! Call the Center for Law and Justice In Virginia beach Va., or The Alliance Defense Fund, or Thomas More Law, these are just a few of the Christian Legal organizations that will represent you for free. We must stand now or we are going to lose everything, and our children are the ones who will suffer.

  17. Having national education standards the responsibility of the central government is the worst possible thing a country do. Educational police should mainly be the domain of local governments with the state governments possibly responsible for some lesser areas involving Education. Total central government dictates are a big step toward totalitarianism! Our educational system is a mess now thanks to stupid schemes such as Core. But that is what happens when you have the Liberals running the show!

  18. morons – local boards chose the books that are used and the conservatives are trying to change history by denying the facts in the books. Louisiana is one of the worst and that is why they breed ignorance

  19. From what I have heard that Common Core is a communist type agenda in teaching. We can’t have this people. We are a Nation of rules and laws and we have done great back in the 50/60 in the teaching curriculum. We were ahead globally in teaching. Then came along the liberals with their idea and we have gone down hill ever since. We need to correct direction and tell the other to go jump in the lake. Nothing like making us dumb and dumber.!!! And you wonder why parents are sending their kids to private schools or home-schooling.????

  20. Democrats want all kids to learn to be good socialists and love the New World Government they plan to implant on America.

    • Actually Sharon that’s complete bull shit.

Why the hell would we want a new world government?

What kind of silly people are you?

Who feeds you this bull crap and why do you believe it?
Would Sharon like to cite some evidence as to why she believes liberals WANT a NEW WORLD ORDER?

Are you going to go with, “BECAUSE RUSH LIMBAUGH SAID SO”

If right wing propaganda told you there it been a great mistake and the sky was actually green, you conservatives would believe it, especially if they blame the Obama.

      Seriously.
There is not a rational brain cell amongst you.

      • I know who you are, and what you want, socialism at it best go live in England or France, they have fallen to Muslims.

        • The silliness of the American conservative.

When cornered in an argument through out the Muslim, socialist, communist line.
See if that fends them off from realizing you’re a vacant conservative, a factless drone that blindly follows Rush Limbaugh and the other talking heads on hate radio.
          Facts be damned!

Why isSharon dodging my question about the new world government?

Did Sharon make up that poo?
And Sharon can’t prove it because Rush Limbaugh did tell her and she really has no facts?

So based on the word of the shock jock, who gets paid millions of dollars every year to keep conservatives angry and foaming at the mouth, you are concluding that liberals and progressives in America DESIRE the New World government,
          whatever the hell that is.

Sharon can’t even describe what it is, where it’s coming from, who is behind it, and when it can take place.

Sharon is under her bed with her gun afraid of the imaginary threat.
Just like right wing propaganda wants you to be.

          • The argument of a socialist, only their opinion matters, why are in the US to begin with. You should be with the rest of the Socialists fools in France or some place

          • I’m here for the socialist Social Security.
I’m here for the socialist Medicare.

I’m here for those socialist parks.

And don’t forget the socialist libraries, and city centers.
I love the socialist highway system, and the socialist electric grid.

America is a great socialist country, just needs a few “fixes”

          • It’s no use trying to talk to an old fool, you will remain a fool, head on sucker, your a loser.

          • It’s okay to admit defeat Sharon.

Look at this way you learned a lot.
Now you’re not an ignorant con, who thinks America does not have socialist programs.

          • You stupid old liar, I bet you never fought for America probably our enemies and probably still are.

          • Sharon lashes out after being cornered by her complete lack of info.
scary that you live your life in such a clueless state.

You cons don’t seem to be capable of thinking for yourselves.
you just parrot back the talking heads.

when cornered, you can’t even provide bad information.

time to reexamine who you are listening to.

THIS issue is designed to split the country.
            YOU are falling for it.

          • This moron is a communist, who thinks everyone wants to be a communist.

          • NO, silly
YOU are the moron who thinks I am a communist and wants everyone to be a communist.

but you’re not to bright, so….

WHO would want to go from western to communism?

you have to have a screw lose to think this crap.well you d vote GOP, so….

          • Pst.
retired white dude living in Ca.

          • Retired from what left wing propaganda for the NWO

          • movie industry actually.

thinking I am part of a coordinated group also adds the evidence of you not being too bright.

          • You better look in the mirror old man, you been stupid all your socialists loving life.

        • Let’s talk socialism Sharon, because you seem sadly ignorant of the facts

Sharon does not seem to know that Social Security is socialism.

          That Medicare is socialism.

          Medicaid is socialism

that state run parks are socialism.

          The public libraries are socialism.

          Public utilities are socialism.

          Welfare is socialism

          food stamps are socialism

I can go on, but by now I would expect even a low functioning conservative to be getting the point.

Right wing propaganda has screwed with your mind.
YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW that you’re living with socialism right now.

See silly conservative, there are different levels of socialism.
the proper term is Democratic socialism, but that might be a bit of a stretch for Sharon to absorb in one post.

But you should make the effort since you live in a Democratic socialist country.

          • Your a brain dead socialist moron, why would I listen to brain dead fools like you. To stupid to even see what is in front of you. Want to be controlled move to Russia fool.

          • Where did I say I needed control silly conservative?

It’s your choice to ignore what I say, because this is America, where you have the right to be a dumb ass.

Meanwhile, the world laughs at you fools who live in socialism, and pretend you’re not.
American conservatives stupidity is legendary across the planet.

IF It’s owned by the state and used by the people that is pretty much the definition of “socialism” silly human.

          • Go away you stinking communist and Socialist lover and don’t come back

          • Is that how Sharon deals with reality?

            ignore IT?

            don’t forget Sharon,
YOU are a socialist as well.

  21. Common Core is here , it does need to be thrown out of the schools. It is also in the Social Studies books and Geography Books, it is put in those books so that the culture of Islam takes up 3 pages to 1 page of Christianity I have complained about this , I am 1 grandmother , but the law states as long as 1 page of Christianity is in the books the schools cannot complain. There is strength in numbers its just a shame these teachers look at this as $$$.

    • Stop lying on the Internet.
There is no such thing as a common core text book.

If you’ve actually complain about this the principal probably laughed in your face.

      Please name the text book.
      (Like that will happen)

      Is grannies making this up.
My wife is a teacher. She is dealing with common core as well.

SHE WOULD KILL for a pre-made textbook, a premade lesson plan.
But no granny they don’t exist. Every school district, every state is responsible for CREATING their own teaching materials that will aid them in teaching the necessary skills to reach common core standards.

      AND
Here’s a little fact sheet from the state of Arizona, explaining how you are very ignorant about common core.

You see Arizona was one of the states THAT DEVELOPED common core.
And they don’t want any bull shit on the Internet disgracing their hard work.

      http://www.mpsaz.org/curriculum/commoncore/com-cor-pub-and-update/files/azpet_myths_and_facts_1.pdf

  22. Keep on keepin’ on, Gov’nor!

All of this federal intrusion into local schools began with the Department of Education, was advanced forward by the No Child Left Behind law and standards which imposed these on local schools, but did not fund the cost fully. The latest evolution of government control over standards, curriculum, testing, and families as well as children is another edict by the Department of Education–Common Core. Even text book manufacturers have changed their textbooks to accommodate Common Core, and that is even true in private and Christian schools.

Home schooling is the answer for most conscientious grandparents and parents, but I do understand that there are some unable to home school. For those souls we must fight this Common Core and work to eliminate the Department of Education, Department of Commerce, cut out or cut down drastically every alphabet government agency (EPA, ATF, etc.).

    • “The latest evolution of government control over standards, curriculum,
testing, and families as well as children is another edict by the
      Department of Education–Common Core.”

      THAT IS A COMPLETE LIE

Common core is is a set of standards set up by a group of states including Arizona, Idaho and Florida.

      Are those liberal states now?

Here’s something put up in the state of Arizona explaining what common core is.
Probably because they have a large number of idiot conservatives like you, but since THEY developed the program, they want to use it.

      http://www.mpsaz.org/curriculum/commoncore/com-cor-pub-and-update/files/azpet_myths_and_facts_1.pdf

so unless Arizona is a liberal state now, you best read up and stop LYING.

The Federal government had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the creation of common core.

“Even text book manufacturers have changed their textbooks to accommodate
Common Core, and that is even true in private and Christian schools.”

      THAT IS A COMPLETE LIE

So your goal today was to come on the Internet and post as many lies as you could?

Common core is a set of standards, there are no textbooks there are no lesson plans.

Common core lays out a set of goals for students to achieve, not a list of facts student to know.

Common core is more about critical thinking and less about memorization.

  23. Arizona Common Core Standards – Myths vs. Facts
(So unless Arizona has gone liberal, you have to accept this AS FACT)

Myth: The Arizona Common Core Standards are national standards.
Fact: The standards were developed through a state-led initiative spearheaded by governors and state school chiefs. The federal government was not involved in the development of the standards.

Myth: The standards are federally mandated.

Fact: The standards are not federally mandated. Arizona, along with 45 other states, voluntarily adopted
    the standards.

Myth: The Common Core shifts control of education from local school boards to the federal
    government.

Fact: Local school boards retain their same level of authority as they had prior to the adoption of the
    standards.

Myth: Common Core will impede the work of charter schools.

Fact: Charter schools in Arizona generally support Common Core because they can keep their unique
    missions.

Myth: Arizona is locked into the Common Core and cannot make changes to the standards.

Fact: The State Board of Education can continue to make changes to academic standards at any time.
Good standards shouldn’t change too often, but over time should evolve based on what is learned from
research, from educators in the field, and from student assessments.

Myth: The Common Core won’t prepare students for college and career.

Fact: The Standards reflect the real-world expectations of what is necessary for students to succeed in
higher education and the workforce, including critical-thinking, problem solving, and effective
communication skills. To this end, the standards were developed using evidence that includes scholarly
research; surveys on what skills are required of students entering college and workforce training
programs; assessment data identifying college and career-ready performance; and comparisons to
standards from high-performing states and nations, among other data. Together with highly trained,
well-supported teachers, the Standards will better prepare Arizona students for college and career.

Myth: The Common Core is not internationally benchmarked.

Fact: The Standards draw from the best existing standards in the country and are benchmarked to the
top performing nations around the world, ensuring that our students are well prepared to compete with
their peers abroad for the jobs of the future.
Arizona Public Engagement Task Force – 2013

Myth: Arizona’s old standards are better than the Common Core Standards.

Fact: The Standards have been well-received and are regarded by most commentators – across the
political spectrum – as an improvement on the state standards they replace. For example, in a recent
analysis, the Fordham Institute found that the Common Core is an improvement over the Arizona’s past
    standards.

Myth: The Common Core Standards are a curriculum that tells teachers what to teach.

Fact: The Standards are not a curriculum. Rather, they are a set of goals that outline what students
should be able to know and do in each grade in English and math. Decisions about how to teach the
standards (e.g. curriculum, tools, materials and textbooks) are left to local decision-makers who know
    their students best.

Myth: Implementing the Common Core will not require any big changes in teaching or learning.
Fact: The Common Core will require new methods of teaching that lead students to become critical
thinkers and problem solvers with higher levels of subject mastery. Arizona teachers will need
additional training and time to adopt more innovative instructional methods and deepen their content
    knowledge.

Myth: The Common Core does not have enough emphasis on fiction and literature.

Fact: While there is a shift towards including informational text in the standards, literature is included.
The Standards require certain critical content for all students, including: classic myths and stories from
around the world, America’s Founding Documents, foundational American literature, and Shakespeare.
Appropriately, the remaining crucial decisions about what content should be taught are left to state and
local determination. In addition to content coverage, the Standards require that students systematically
acquire knowledge in literature and other disciplines through reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Myth: The math standard does not address algebra until high school.

Fact: There is a great deal of algebra in the 8th grade standards and a strong focus on the prerequisites
for algebra in the elementary grades. If a student is ready to move on to algebra in 8th grade or before,
the decision will be made with the student’s parents, teacher and school district, as has always been.
Myth: Common Core was developed quickly and with little public comment.

Fact: The standards were developed by a thoughtful and transparent process led by the National
Governors Association and Council for Chief State School Officers. The process relied on teachers,
experts from across the country (including Arizonans), and feedback from key stakeholders and the
general public. NGA and CCSSO received nearly 10,000 comments in response to the draft standards,
which were incorporated into the standards.

Myth: Arizonans were not involved in the creation of the standards.

Fact: Experts from Arizona were involved in the development of the standards. One example includes
Dr. William McCallum, the University Distinguished Professor of Mathematics and Head of the
Department of Mathematics at the University of Arizona, who was one of the lead writers of the math
standard. Arizona teachers, superintendents, staff from the Arizona Department of Education, and
others were also involved in reviewing and providing input to the standards.

    http://www.mpsaz.org/curriculum/commoncore/com-cor-pub-and-update/files/azpet_myths_and_facts_1.pdf

So the intelligent conservative should now be wondering, why has right wing propaganda been lying to me all these years?

  24. Reality check, you must be hiding. I guess, you haven’t heard about, ONE WORLD ORDER. What do you think has been discussed vehemently since Obama took office. Please, look this up! And here’s another tid bit for you. Pope Francis is trying to form ONE WORLD RELIGION. Have you asked yourself, why is the pope so political and trying to unite EVERY religion with him at the helm.
ONE WORLD ORDER + ONE WORLD RELIGION = ONE WORLD SLAVERY!

    • Obviouslylinks are above Wolfman’s intellectual level

    • “why is the pope so political and trying to unite EVERY religion with him at the helm.”

I would not say this in public.
You’ll find yourself in the local mental institution for your three day mental evaluation.

And then as you wacky conservatives know, Obama will then take your guns once you fail the mental evaluation.

One has to wonder of someone this stupid exists in America?

  25. The problem with Common Core is that it was created by the heads of the states’ departments of education (48 of them) along with governors. This whole thing was the goal of the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers. Plus, teachers, parents other school administrators and education experts had their input. As for the standards, them came from the states themselves. Herein lies the problem, our education system sucks. Why, because the profession no longer attracts some of the best and brightest college students. Why should they? Pay is law, there is a lack of respect. Better to go to law school, or get your MBA. For those who an interest in teaching history or science – why not become actual historians and actual scientists. In the past, when there was a glass ceiling for women in the workplace, they only avenue to success was in public education, but now all avenues are open. Thus, for most students who are getting their undergraduate degrees in education, they are in the bottom half of the percentiles for college students. This is the exact opposite to what we find in Finland, Sweden and Norway, where teacher salaries are competitive to the salaries in law firms, and the jobs for teachers are not on competitive, but require high standards – you need your degrees in history, biological physics, etc., rather than a degree in education with less than a minor in the subject matter you would teach.
The other problem with Common Core, is that there are a good number of states that right now are just basically adequate in their public education. Most states have set their own proficiency standards at a much lower level. Why? So that the state, its legislature and governor would not be embarrassed. Also low expectations from the whole No Child Left Behind. So, right now the quality of a child’s education depends on what state they are living. One needs to also include the child’s own standard of living, economic level, etc.
Bottom line, many people oppose Common Core is the fear of the federal government interfering.. But many of the states are not doing that great of a job. And, I doubt there will ever be improvement because we prefer local and state politicians to find the solution when they themselves are part of the problem along with schools and colleges of education. As a personal example, I had a friend in high school that got D’s in Algebra and never went any further in high school when it came to math. After high school I hadn’t see him for about ten years. When we met against he had a two PhDs – one in myth and the other in physics. How could that be? He simply told me that when he got to college, he took algebra again, but not from a math teacher (who was primarily the swim coach in our high school) but from a mathematician, and it all became crystal clear, and the rest of then history for he discovered he had talent in math and science.

  26. Your right, even I went through more than two steps in solving problems. That was a long time ago.I’m 54 now and we didn’t have common core back then, and I don’t believe we need it now.Our children have enough problems to go through without having common core learning.Good lord man, each teacher is giving the children at least one
hour of homework each day, they don’t need any more. Our children have so much homework, that they are going through SCHOOL BURNOUT!!!!!
