Joe Biden presented his first, State of the Union to the American people last night, addressing concerns from COVID to the Russia-Ukraine invasion.
First Lady Jill Biden’s personal guest, Melissa Isaac, is the Gizhwaasod (“Protector of the Young”) at the Michigan Department of Education’s Indigenous Education Initiative, and founder of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tripe’s Project AWARE Program.
According to sources, Isaac met the First Lady Biden and U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murphy last October when she hosted an event focused on youth mental health with associates of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, instructors, and families in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
In a tweet last June, she blasted those opposing critical race theory, basically calling anyone who doesn’t support these teachings to be a suppressor.
“Let’s call it for what it is CENSORSHIP,” Isaac said in a 2021 tweet. “That’s what we’re really talking about. Censoring systemic racism, injustice, and inequality will NOT ungay the gay, unqueer the queen, nor will it reduce the number of [Black, Indigenous, people of color] killed by police brutality. It will not keep my indigenous sisters from going Missing and being Murdered, and it definitely won’t kill the Indian to save the man…..We are still here.”
Isaac is an enrolled member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, works with the Michigan Department of Education, and most recently was the Director of Education for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
Melissa Isaac has expressed publicly, her interest in Bryan Brayboy, a President’s Professor in the School of Social Transformation at Arizona State University, who authored a 2005 article titled Toward a Tribal Critical Race Theory in Education, which is an article to “address the issues of Indigenous Peoples in the United States.”
Brayboy took on a new role as ASU, and was praised by Isaac who posted on Facebook she is a “huge fan of hit Tribal Critical Race Theory.”
Isaac was seen sitting behind Jill Biden at the State of the Union, and gaining the media’s attention as “the lady behind Jill Biden with the colorful ribboned skirt.”
