(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has issued a final reminder for American taxpayers to claim their share of approximately $1.5 billion in unclaimed tax refunds from 2019. The IRS believes roughly 1.5 million individuals are entitled to these uncollected refunds, which average out to around $893 per person.

Taxpayers are reminded that the absolute deadline for filing 2019 tax returns and claiming these refunds is July 17th. IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel has warned that the clock is ticking for those yet to claim their tax refunds, and the deadline is fast approaching. He urged those who may have neglected to file their tax returns to do so promptly to avoid forfeiting what could potentially be a significant refund.

The deadline for claiming 2019 tax refunds was extended beyond the customary three-year window due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The chaos and uncertainty engendered by the pandemic resulted in many people forgetting or overlooking their possible tax refunds tied to their 2019 tax returns. The IRS is particularly addressing this call to those taxpayers who still have the opportunity to claim these refunds.

Every U.S. state, including Washington D.C., has over 3,000 taxpayers eligible for unclaimed refunds. The states with the highest number of individuals estimated to be eligible for these refunds include California with nearly 145,000, Texas with over 135,000, Florida with approximately 90,000, and New York with 81,600 individuals.
