(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar (Minnesota) has criticized the Democratic Party’s leadership, calling internal turmoil “shameful.”

Taking to X, Omar, a prominent member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, wrote that it felt “shameful,” to hear “leaks about what Democratic leaders are [saying]” but not have any of them confirm or deny it.

She decried their silence as a “lack of leadership,” that was making the party “look bad,” adding that the result of their actions “will not undo the damage that has already been inflicted.”

Omar’s comments come after reports surfaced about how Congressional leaders, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), were working behind the scenes to convince Biden to step aside.

While all three have gone on record to support Biden’s decision to suspend his campaign, none have denied or responded to the leaks detailing the party’s inner turmoil.

Things came to a head when The New York Times published Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin’s (Maryland) letter to Biden in early July asking him to step aside.

That article seemingly sparked Omar’s public comment on the party’s internal turmoil because less than an hour after the letter was published, Omar posted her remarks on X.

Raskin became the latest Democrat to plead with Biden to withdraw from the race.

Omar’s calls for unity echo similar calls made by Independent Senator Bernie Sanders (VT), who wrote an op-ed the Times published on Saturday, calling for the Democrats to end their “circular firing squad.”

Other members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus have also come to Biden’s defense, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
