Following in the hypocritical tracks of California Gov. Gavin Newsom and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock (D) disgraced himself this week by traveling home to Texas for Thanksgiving after warning his constituents to avoid doing the same. Hancock had to come to the public with hat in hand on Wednesday after his holiday travel was exposed – quite in opposition to his own warnings about the dangers of family gatherings in the age of COVID.
Here was his tweet from Wednesday:
Pass the potatoes, not COVID.
🏘️Stay home as much as you can, especially if you’re sick.
💻Host virtual gatherings instead of in-person dinners.
❌Avoid travel, if you can.

But it seems that Hancock had absolutely no intention of following his own advice.
“As the holiday approached, I decided it would be safer for me to travel to see them than have two family members travel back to Denver,” said Hancock. “I recognize that my decision has disappointed many who believe it would have been better to spend Thanksgiving alone. As a public official, whose conduct is rightly scrutinized for the message it sends to others, I apologize to the residents of Denver who see my decision as conflicting with the guidance to stay at home for all but essential travel.”
In a follow-up tweet, he explained: “I made my decision as a husband and father, and for those who are angry and disappointed, I humbly ask you to forgive decisions that are borne of my heart and not my head.”
Ah. So, in other words, Hancock found it too painful to spend the Thanksgiving holidays alone, despite the pandemic raging through the country. Well gee, Michael, that’s exactly what led to millions of people doing just the same this past week. What, do you think people traveled to be with their families “just cuz”? We know that Democrats always view the decisions of everyday Americans as if they were highly-advanced aliens studying the motions of a primitive species, but for goodness’ sakes. No one is flaunting coronavirus restrictions out of spite!
Democrat-initiated lockdown rules would be hard enough to swallow under the best of circumstances, but they lose all credibility when the politicians themselves can’t follow their own rules. If you’re going to preach morality, you can’t get caught in the public bathroom with your pants down. And if you’re going to preach the Gospel of Staying Home, you’d better damn well stay home yourself.
