(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in an opinion piece in The New York Times argued that Vice President Kamala Harris could overcome the “double standards” in U.S. politics and successfully defeat former President Donald Trump.
Clinton argued in the piece that she knew how hard it could be for “strong women candidates” to have to fight against the double standards and sexism in politics. She pointed out that during her campaign she has been called a “nasty woman,” “witch” and several other comments that are even more offensive.
She pointed out that as the presidential candidate, she had often shied away from making any reference to making history, arguing that she was not entirely sure that voters would have been ready for that. She added that she was not running for office because she wanted to break any barriers, but rather, she ran because she believed she was the most qualified person for office. She added that she was proud of her two presidential campaigns which had set the precedent that it was normal for a woman to be on top of the presidential ticket.
After President Joe Biden announced that he was no longer running for office in 2024, Harris became the likely Democratic nominee. If she is successful, she could become not only the first woman U.S. president but also the first person of South Asian descent to become President, as VP Harris is biracial.
In 2016, Clinton managed to win the Democratic party’s nomination; however, she ultimately lost to former President Donald Trump in the general election. In her piece, she has now argued that elections were focused on the future and that Harris represents a fresh start in U.S. politics.
