Former Attorney General Eric Holder was on Bill Maher’s HBO show on Friday to talk about the Russia investigation, because for some reason liberals still turn to Holder when they want a legal opinion. Apparently they missed the swamp of illegalities that Holder swam in when he held that office in the first six years of the Obama presidency. For the rest of us, it’s a nice reminder that no matter how much President Trump may hate Jeff Sessions for recusing himself from all things election-related and no matter how much more action we might like to see out of Sessions when it comes to investigating the Obama administration’s crimes…we’re still WAY better off than we used to be.
In any case, Holder told Maher that he was pretty sure Special Counsel Robert Mueller was gearing up to file obstruction charges against the president.
“You technically have an obstruction of justice case that already exists,” Holder lied. “I’ve known Bob Mueller for 20, 30 years; my guess is he’s just trying to make the case as good as he possibly can. So, I think that we have to be patient in that regard.”
Yes, “patience” is the word we would use while waiting for an independent prosecutor to comb through every remark Trump has ever made, every business deal he ever negotiated, and every statute in the U.S. criminal code book so he can find something – ANYTHING – that he can bring to the Democrats and say, “Hey, I did the best I could.” Even a rank partisan like Holder knows this case is a nothingburger, and he should be ashamed of himself for participating in the perpetration of this hoax. Of course, knowing Holder as we do, he’s never felt anything close to the emotion of shame. For that, he would have to grow a conscience.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: If obstruction of justice is the best that Mueller’s got on Trump, then he doesn’t have anything. Trump was well within his rights as president to ask James Comey to pack up his desk and hit the bricks. He could have done it on the first day, he could have done it yesterday. It doesn’t matter. Frankly, you can’t obstruct justice when there IS no justice being served. There is absolutely nothing resembling “justice” in this Trump/Russia investigation as far as we can tell. If there’s a crime against obstructing a phony political witch hunt, then maybe Trump is guilty. Good luck impeaching him on that.
