Feminist Actress: My 12-Year-Old is Gay and Uses “They/Them” Pronouns

It’s not easy to feel sorry for kids who grow up with the (actual) privileges afford them by virtue of having rich, famous, celebrity parents; after all, who among us wouldn’t have enjoyed the opportunity to grow up with a silver spoon in our mouths? But then, when you really think about it – and when you hear details about how these children are “raised” (if you can call it that), you start to wonder. Maybe it’s a privilege to grow up rich, but surely there is no amount of wealth in the world that can make up for some of the twisted nonsense these kids are being subjected to.

Take actress Busy Philipps, who announced on her podcast this week that her child – Birdie – came out of the closet at the ripe old age of 10.

“For those of you who are my friends listening at home, this is the first you’re hearing that Birdie is gay and out,” she said. “Birdie told us at 10 years old and we immediately… I mean obviously, I knew that Birdie knew.”

Philipps went on to note that Birdie, who is now 12, doesn’t respond to traditional female pronouns.

“I said, ‘You know, Bird, I’ve been doing a bad job with the pronouns,’” she said. “Because Birdie said that they would like their pronouns to be they/them, and I haven’t been doing it, and I said because I have this public persona and I want Birdie to be in control of their own narrative and not have to answer to anybody outside of our friends and family if they don’t want to.”

Feeling guilty that she wasn’t properly honoring her child’s wishes by still referring to her as “her” in public, she asked her daughter if she would be okay if she went public with the whole situation.

“Bird was like, ‘I don’t give a f**k. You can talk about how I’m gay and out; you can talk about my pronouns. That would be cool with me. That’s great,’” Philipps said. “So I said, ‘OK, I can talk about it on the podcast.’ So Birdie, my out kid, prefers they/them. I f**k up sometimes, but I’m trying my best at that, too.”

Like we said, growing up with money and all the rest…it might be great, but when your mother is a leftist radical who buys into every schizo trend that comes down the pike, it certainly comes at a cost. Hopefully Bird can figure some of this out as she gets older, but we can’t say we’re optimistic about her chances.
