(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – In Alaska, U.S. District Judge Joshua M. Kindred submitted his letter of resignation on July 3rd, which was effective as of July 8th. The federal judge did not provide any explanation for his resignation which comes after the recent allegations that he had an “inappropriately sexualized relationship” with a law clerk.
On Monday, a judicial conduct review was released in which Kindred has been accused of creating a hostile work environment while also having an inappropriate relationship with a staffer during her clerkship. The relationship continued after she became an assistant U.S. attorney.
The Judicial Council in charge of overseeing the case has requested the voluntary resignation of Kindred as the United States Judicial Conference is looking into the situation. The special committee had been appointed in February 2023 to look into the allegations.
In its 1,144-page report the committee noted earlier this year that after they interviewed witnesses and reviewed hundreds of text messages, including those of Kindred and other people who worked for him, there was an “unusually close relationship” between the judge and the law clerk in question. It was noted in the report that the two had been involved intimately on two separate occasions in October 2022.
The panel also looked through close to 300 pages of text messages exchanged by the two over an 11-month period. After the woman had left her clerkship to start working as an assistant U.S. attorney, she had met the judge for drinks. The judge had then brought her to his chambers where he had kissed her according to the review.
A few days after that encounter the two had been engaged in another intimate encounter in his temporary apartment. Regarding the second incident, the clerk described how she knew it was going to happen and she had known there was nothing she could do about it.
