Falwell Will Support “Civil Disobedience” if VA Dems Pass New Gun Laws

In an interview with Todd Starnes last week, Liberty University president Jerry Falwell, Jr. said he will condone civil disobedience measures if Democrats in the Virginia legislature go forward with radical gun control bills. Speaking in the wake of a massive pro-Second Amendment rally in Richmond, Falwell addressed the Democrats under Gov. Ralph Northam, who appear determined to ignore the obvious will of the people.

Despite witnessing one of the most astounding demonstrations of conservative force in years, the Democrats in the House Public Safety Committee have passed bills that include universal background checks, red flag laws, and a bill that would limit the number of handguns an individual can purchase. Falwell said that if Democrats resume their talks about “assault weapon” bans, universal registration, or widespread confiscation, he would be on board with disobeying those laws.

“I’m pretty sure I’m going to call for civil disobedience if the Democrats go through with this,” Falwell said. “You don’t mess with people’s guns in this part of the state.”

But Falwell noted that civil disobedience on the part of individuals might not even be necessary, seeing as how many law enforcement professionals and sheriffs have already come out to say that they won’t enforce the laws in the first place.

“The hundred municipalities and jurisdictions who have passed resolutions to protect the Second Amendment, I think the police officers and the populace would not be opposed to just disobeying,” he said. “It’s like sanctuary cities in liberal states where they refused to obey the federal law when it comes to immigration. I think it’s time for conservatives.”

The comparison is apt, except in this case, it will be the sanctuary cities who actually ARE in compliance with federal law. Most specifically, the federal laws that supersede all others: The Constitution of the United States of America.

For a few reasons, Virginia Democrats really want to think twice before moving ahead with these bills. One, the inherent danger of enforcing gun laws that the public has rejected sets the stage for a violent outcome. Two, assuming Virginia police have the sense to avoid massive confrontations with gun owners who aren’t going to go quietly into the night…the state government is going to expose an ugly truth at the center of their gun control schemes. To wit: If gun owners decide that their rights are more important than your laws, you don’t have another card to play. It’s over. You lost.

Finally, let’s face it: Gun control was not on the Virginia ballot last time around. But if Northam and his goons go through with this, it certainly will be next time. Judging by the enormous outcry that even PROPOSING these bills resulted in, do Democrats really think they can survive the electoral backlash?

There’s no shame in backing down, guys. In fact, it’s your best possible option at this point.
