(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Twitter owner and CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter to express his support for House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy who is currently trying to become the Speaker of the House. McCarthy is entering his third day of trying to win enough votes to become the Speaker. Since Tuesday, the House has been holding votes for the House Speaker to be elected but after six ballots they appear to be no closer to having someone win the vote.

In a tweet early on Thursday morning, Musk said that “Kevin McCarthy should be Speaker.”

Despite the Republicans currently having the House majority with 222, McCarthy has failed to gain the support of everyone within his conference as around 20 GOP representatives-elect have claimed that McCarthy is not well suited for the position. McCarthy needs to win 218 votes in order to become the speaker but so far, the most votes he has won was 203 on Tuesday.

Those Republicans who are voting against Musk include members of the House Freedom Caucus (HFC) members Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.; Lauren Boebert, R-Colo.; and Byron Donalds, R-Fla. Donalds, who had previously been backing McCarthy on Tuesday, was nominated by Boebert on Wednesday which led to him switching his position.

In a tweet, Donalds wrote that McCarthy does not have the votes in reality. Despite this, he had given McCarthy his support for two votes on the floor, but that did not bring McCarthy any closer to the desired 218 votes.

One of the most notable Republicans to continue to back McCarthy is former President Donald Trump. Trump had previously endorsed McCarthy and he even took to Truth Social to encourage Republicans to vote in support of McCarthy.

However, even Trump’s support has not helped switch some of the biggest opponents of McCarthy. Gaetz, a well-known supporter of Trump, did not change his position and continued to not support McCarthy during the votes.
