On Saturday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis urged President Joe Biden to allow him to bring in his workers from Florida to help construct the border wall, but Biden continues to block its construction.

In a rally in Sioux Center, Iowa, DeSantis stated that he was going to immediately shut down the border, adding that the American people deserved a secure border and rule of law. DeSantis’s statements came during Republican Rep. Randy Feenstra’s 3rd annual Family Picnic. He proceeded to state that it should be up to Americans and not immigrants to decide when and who was allowed to enter the country.

In his speech, DeSantis also made a jab at President Biden, saying that he could put his Florida workers to the task and they would complete the wall in no time. He proceeded to reference the state’s response to Hurricane Ian which had destroyed bridges and roads across Florida.

As he pointed out, his workers were able to restore the bridge from the mainland to Pine Island within three days and to fix the Sanibel Causeway within two weeks. This response came after the local people had informed the governor that the federal government would need 6 months to fix these bridges, which fell under their responsibility. DeSantis stressed that he managed to get the bridges running again as quickly as possible without any bureaucracy, excuses, or red tape. As he said, his workers managed to complete the task close to 5-and-a-half months ahead of schedule, and he would be willing to have them work on constructing the border wall as well.
