(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Monday, a federal judge in Pensacola, Florida heard the opening arguments in the case brought forth by Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis regarding immigration against the Biden administration.
In the lawsuit, DeSantis alleges that the Biden administration’s policies have enabled thousands of migrants to take residence in Florida. He further notes that the administration has not taken any action to stop this from occurring with each passing month.
Florida officials have maintained that migrants cause a strain on resources as there are many costs that the state needs to cover for them. These include costs for prisons, schooling, and healthcare.
James Percival, Florida’s deputy attorney general of legal policy noted in his opening statement that the Department of Homeland Security has systematically worked to reduce the available resources that were used for detention. Percival also added that the government is not working to detain migrants, but rather to release them. It is this open border policy that has led to an influx of illegal immigrants entering the country.
However, the Biden administration’s attorneys have maintained that the White House has not created any policies focused on releasing immigrants as the state of Florida is alleging in its September 2021 court filing.
DeSantis in regards to the border crisis has said that this is a crisis created by the administration and yet the only thing that can effectively be done is to fight back.
DeSantis and Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody filed an amended complaint in which they claimed the latest policy brought forth by the administration was not lawful.
