Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has repeatedly refused to respond to the attacks brought forth by his potential 2024 GOP presidential primary rival, former President Donald Trump.

In an interview with Fox News’s Jesse Watters, DeSantis was asked about the former President’s constant attacks and criticisms. In response, DeSantis said that he viewed the criticisms as “background noise” and that he was not focusing on the attacks, but rather on his job as governor.

During the episode Primetime, Watters also claimed that DeSantis was “obviously running for president” and even tried to get the governor to admit his presidential ambitions. However, DeSantis was quick to avoid the question, noting instead that he was “proud of what we have done in Florida.” He continued to say that they just had a big re-election victory which included a lot of promises being made. He added that he was going to deliver on all of his commitments.

Watters proceeded to tell DeSantis that he is clearly on Trump’s mind, which is obvious from the constant criticisms and insults. In response, DeSantis said that Trump previously praised his performance as governor, but as soon as he won a big reelection campaign, Trump’s tune changed. He did note, however, that one of the reasons he has been so successful as the governor is because he has ignored the background noise. He continued by saying that even now he is focused on delivering the wins, rather than on the comments.
