(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) criticized the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) for expressing opposition towards a donation made in support of a pro-DeSantis super PAC.

DeSantis, in a recent post on X (formerly referred to as Twitter), stated that they had taken action against their policies, with Orlando Magic Ltd. having made a $50,000 donation to Never Back Down, a pro-DeSantis super PAC.

On Thursday, the NBPA referred to the donation as “alarming.”

An Orlando Magic spokesperson argued at first that the original contribution had been made on May 19th, which was before DeSantis announced his presidential bid. Orlando Magic’s chief communications officer Joe Glass specifically noted that this donation had been done before DeSantis’ announced his presidential campaign and that it was provided in support of the Florida governor’s attempts to bring prosperity to Central Florida.

Despite these claims at the time of the donation, it was widely speculated that DeSantis would place a bid for the White House and Never Back Down had been running advertisements in early primary states in support of DeSantis since April.

Orlando Magic is owned by RDV Sports Inc., which was under the control of Richard DeVos, the late GOP donor and billionaire. The family is also connected to former President Donald Trump, as Betsy DeVos had previously served as the education secretary during his administration.

A DeVos family spokesperson had noted in a statement sent to The Hill that none of the family members had directly provided financial support towards any of the 2024 presidential primary candidates.
