(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Over the past weekend, Democratic representatives reacted to a statement made by Rep. Pramila Jayapal from Washington, a member of the progressive “Squad,” who had labeled Israel a “racist state.” Jayapal later retracted her statement.

Democratic leaders including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York, Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar of California, and Whip Katherine Clark of Massachusetts issued a combined statement on Sunday, voicing their disapproval of Jayapal’s remarks. They asserted that Israel is not a racist state, and despite political disagreements with some of Israel’s governmental coalition members, the bond between the United States and Israel persists irrespective of governmental changes.

Separately, Jewish House representatives – Reps. Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, Greg Landsman of Ohio, Dean Phillips of Minnesota, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Brad Schneider of Illinois, Kathy Manning of North Carolina, and Jared Moskowitz of Florida – drafted a letter denouncing Jayapal’s comments as “unacceptable”. As per a Fox News report, the group is yet to send the letter to Jayapal as they are seeking more signatures.

The letter criticizes the representative’s attempts to “delegitimize” Israel as the Jewish homeland as being both dangerous and antisemitic. The lawmakers also express their concern that such remarks could compromise U.S. national security and argue that the Democratic Party must resist the influence of anti-Zionists who make antisemitic comments.

Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California, separately responded to Jayapal’s remarks, asserting that Israel is the sole democracy in the region.
