( – The Biden administration is facing pressure from the Democrats to try and manage the flow of migrants entering the country illegally through the U.S.- Mexico border.

This week, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, who is one of the 2024 Biden campaign surrogates, sent a letter to the White House pointing out that the arrival of illegal immigrants to his state from Texas has led to their resources being stretched dangerously thin. This is a topic that both Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson brought up to Biden administration officials on Sunday.

While GOP members have blasted the White House over their failure to handle the migrant crisis at the border for months, the number of Democrats who are chiming in with similar criticisms has increased in recent weeks. Many of the Democrats who are now calling for more action are also the same members of the party who are working to win President Biden a second term in office. This is an indication of how problematic the immigrant crisis could end up being for the White House.

Centrist think tank Third Way co-founder Jim Kessler stated that Biden needed to do whatever possible to secure the Southern border. He added that Biden needed to show that he cared about the situation at the border to the same extent as he did about undocumented immigrants. As he pointed out, immigrants continue to be an important soft spot for the Democratic party, a fact the GOP has been keenly aware of.

After Sunday’s call with senior White House aides to address the migration crisis, Pritzker also sent a letter to Biden detailing some of his state’s requests to be able to accommodate the migrants that were arriving from Border States.
