(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Sunday Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) spoke about Biden’s case of mishandling classified documents. Durbin is the second-highest-ranking Senate Democrat.
During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Dana Bash Durbin said that when cases like this arise they diminish “the stature of any person” and that this is not meant to happen.
He added that regardless of how it happened, whether the fault is with a staffer or an attorney it does not make a difference, and ultimately it is the responsibility of the elected official.
Biden has received a lot of criticism since it was revealed that classified information from his time in the Senate and as Vice President in the Obama administration were still in his possession. Republicans have used this as an opportunity to not only criticize the President but also launch an investigation against him. At the same time, the Department of Justice has also launched a full investigation into the case of the mishandled documents.
Attorney General Merrick Garland earlier this month appointed Robert Hur as special counsel in Biden’s case. Many within the Democratic party have been in favor of this move, but there are others like Durbin that have pointed out that Biden’s case is not similar to Trump’s case who has repeatedly refused to cooperate.
More than 100 classified documents were found in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home following an FBI raid. Trump had previously refused to cooperate with a request for the return of the documents.
Durbin pointed out that Trump refused to hand over documents he knew should not be in his possession. Biden on the other hand was embarrassed to find out that documents had been misplaced and remained in his possession.
