(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Democratic Senator John Fetterman suggested it was necessary to “turn down” the temperature on politics in the wake of the attempted assassination of Trump.
In an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” on Sunday, Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) described the assassination attempt as a “tragedy” and “dark day.”
The Pennsylvania Senator also suggested it could be necessary for Congress to investigate what, if anything, had gone wrong from a security standpoint during the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Fetterman noted that people shouldn’t assume what occurred on Saturday wouldn’t “happen again,” adding that it was necessary to “turn down… the temperature on this.”
The Democratic Senator added, “And this election is going to be the biggest… election in our lifetime,” however claimed he wasn’t “gonna make it about politics.”
Fetterman also revealed that he had been in the vicinity of the outdoor rally in Butler to attend a vigil for a murdered transgender teenager when the shots were fired minutes after Trump had taken the stage at the rally.
The Senate Democrat recalled being “incredibly sad” on his “drive back home last night from northwestern Pennsylvania,” adding he couldn’t “believe that this [is] the place where our nation is.”
The fear of political violence has been rising among Americans.
According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted in May, two-thirds of respondents revealed they were worried about violence following the election.
Fetterman also shared his gratitude that Trump would be making a full recovery, expressed hope that two critically injured rally goers would be okay, and relayed his condolences to the family of the one attendee who had been fatally shot.
