Not for the first time, “Will and Grace” star Debra Messing is showing her authoritarian side. Already on record as wanting to see President Trump’s supporters doxxed and blacklisted from polite society, she said this week that if any network hires White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, she’ll be organizing a boycott.
“If I ever see @kayleighmcenany on a panel on a news show or hired by a network, I am immediately ceasing to support every single advertiser on that network,” Messing tweeted. “RT if you agree.#DeplatformHate”
You’ll recall (or perhaps not) that Messing and her co-star Eric McCormack drew criticism last September when they made public statements about a Trump fundraiser in Beverly Hills.
“Hey, kindly report on everyone attending this event, so the rest of us can be clear about who we don’t wanna work with. Thx,” tweeted McCormack.
Messing went further, tweeting: “Please print a list of all attendees please. The public has a right to know.”
After a wave of criticism – some of which actually came from the left, believe it or not – McCormack and Messing back down, improbably suggesting that it was all a big misunderstanding.
“I want to be clear about my social media post from last week, which has been misinterpreted in a very upsetting way. I absolutely do not support blacklists or discrimination of any kid, as anyone who knows me would attest. I’d simply like to understand where Trump’s major donations are coming from, which is a matter of public record. I am holding myself responsible for making educated and informed decisions that I can morally and ethically stand by and to do that, transparency is essential,” wrote McCormack.
Messing co-signed, tweeting: “I couldn’t have said it better.”
Alas, it would be naïve of us to suggest that these two Hollywood dingbats are alone in wanting to blacklist supporters of the president. Indeed, the Lincoln Project has publicly made it their business to collect a dossier on everyone who has worked for this administration in an open effort to keep them from ever finding legitimate employment again. Likewise, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been consistent in her dreams of holding Trump’s supporters “accountable” for the rest of their natural lives.
This is a very dark new trend in leftist politics, but we can’t say we’re surprised. After all, what is this except cancel culture taken to the next logical level?
Oh, but don’t worry: That’s not a thing.
