In a CNN interview on Thursday, New York City (and confirmed socialist clown) Bill de Blasio said that his city was going to have to do without the public gatherings and spectacles that the Big Apple is known for. Until the coronavirus has been eradicated, the public will have to forgo parades, fairs, crowded concerts, and other gatherings that allow the citizenry to express themselves and socialize. However, Black Lives Matter protests, which commonly see hundreds packed into the streets shoulder-to-shoulder? Oh, those can continue, because they’re simply too important.
Earlier in the day, the mayor gave himself a pat on the back for shutting down Fifth Avenue so that the city could paint yet another Black Lives Matter mural on the street – right in front of Trump Tower.
“We are saying Black Lives Matter in New York City and Black Lives Matter in the United States of America! Let’s show Donald Trump what he does not understand; let’s paint it right in front of his building for him!” de Blasio said in his announcement.
On CNN, Blitzer asked the mayor if it made sense to shut down certain gatherings in New York while permitting others.
“What about protests? If people want to march down Fifth Avenue, are they going to be allowed to do so?” he asked.
“Look, Wolf, this is always an area of real sensitivity,” de Blasio replied. “If you’re just talking about health, we would always say, ‘Hey, folks, you know, stay home if you can.’ But we understand at this moment in history, people are talking about the need for historic changes. I mean, today, in New York City, recognizing the power and the meaning of the message Black Lives Matter, which we did in front of Trump Tower today, this is a historic moment of change; we have to respect that, but also say to people, the kinds of gatherings we’re used to – the parades, the fairs – we just can’t have that while we’re focusing on health right now.”
This is the same confused nonsense we’ve been hearing from Democrats for the last month, of course. Even a certain percentage of public health officials have disgraced themselves by saying we should carve out a special COVID exception for racial protesters. How does it work that social justice causes prevent the coronavirus from spreading throughout the community? It doesn’t. These officials are demonstrating an extraordinary amount of cowardice in treating BLM protesters as if they are a special case. The truth is, they lack the will or the guts to put an end to these protests.
Those are, after all, their voters out there in the streets. If we have to worsen a pandemic to keep them happy and satisfied, that’s just what we’ll have to do.
