(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – New York Judge Arthur Engoron denied the request filed by former President Trump’s legal team for a mistrial. He further rejected the claim that the trial had been “tainted” because of the bias exhibited by his principal law clerk.
Engoron described the motion as completely lacking any merit. He also defended his clerk for the political donations he has made and rebuked the defense’s arguments regarding the extrajudicial posts he had posted to a school alumni website. In his six-page ruling, Engoron stated that he stood behind each of his rulings and that they spoke for themselves.
The judge further claimed that the former President’s counsel had been specifically selecting purported misconduct evidence without presenting the full picture. For example, in the mistrial motion, a comment the judge had made relating to a comment Engoron had made about not being there to hear Trump’s comments was included, however, no context was included for the comment. Engoron pointed out that these types of arguments were made in “bad faith” and that the defendants had excluded that the judge had ended the sentence by stating that he was there to hear Trump reply to the questions he was being asked.
The judge also noted that none of the posts he had made on the school alumni website had any effect on the trial, or interfered with the proceedings. The mistrial motion also targeted his clerk arguing that she was acting more like a “co-judge” in the case than a clerk as she and Engoron frequently communicated prior to a decision being made.
