Security Threats Ignored
Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley has been under significant threat from Iranian-linked sources since 2021. Reports reveal that the FBI informed Haley of a “kill list” she was on, due to her strong stance and actions at the UN against Iran. Despite the seriousness of these threats, the Biden administration has not granted her the requested Secret Service protection.
In January 2024, Haley requested protection from Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, following an increase in credible threats. Notably, incidents such as a would-be attacker at a rally in New Hampshire and violent protests at other events underscore the gravity of her security concerns. Her South Carolina residence has also been repeatedly targeted.

Bureaucratic Complications
Despite the clear dangers, Haley’s request for Secret Service protection has gone unanswered. Remarkably, the Candidate Protection Advisory Committee voted in favor of providing her with security detail. Yet, Haley has yet to receive any communication back from Mayorkas. This has prompted questions about the efficiency and responsiveness of the current protocols governing the protection of high-profile figures.
“A source close to Haley told The Daily Wire that the former South Carolina governor was told in 2021 that Iran had placed her on a ‘kill list’ because of her work at the UN.”
Compounding the issue, other former Trump officials who faced similar threats, including Mike Pompeo, Brian Hook, John Bolton, and Robert O’Brien, have received government-provided security. This discrepancy has led many to question why Haley’s requests have been overlooked, particularly in light of her ongoing presidential campaign.

Iran’s Ongoing Threat
The threat level against Haley has only increased with time. Federal investigators revealed that in July 2024, they foiled an Iranian-backed “murder-for-hire plot” against her. Asif Merchant, a Pakistani citizen with ties to Iran, was charged with attempting to hire a hitman to carry out the assassination. This plot further underscores the serious risks Haley faces.
“When I was running my presidential campaign the FBI had a separate hearing with me to let me know that Iran was influencing the election with our campaign to hurt me,” Haley said. “The murder-for-hire plot named me. That’s by Iran.”
Sen. Chuck Grassley has been proactive in releasing information about this Iran-backed plot. He has written to several federal agencies to determine the measures taken to address and investigate the plot. However, both the FBI and DHS have refrained from commenting on the matter, leaving many questions unanswered and concerns growing.
