(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) has stated that he was not calling for Chris Christie to withdraw from the presidential race, despite the two of them being friends. As he told Fox News, Christie’s numbers were dropping, and it appeared he had “hit his limit” in his second presidential run.
Furthermore, he pointed out that Christie could potentially “be the hero” since his dropping out could help elevate former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to the top of the presidential race and could lead to former President Donald Trump losing the race. He added that this would help deliver the win for Haley that “the rest of the country’s looking for.”
Sununu remains extremely popular in his state which is scheduled to hold the first primary in the Republican presidential nominating calendar. Last month, he endorsed Haley in the presidential race, which was a blow to Christie who has focused all of his efforts on winning support in New Hampshire.
Haley has managed to climb in the polls in New Hampshire and is in second place in the race right now. She has also managed to reduce the gap between herself and Trump, who continues to be the frontrunner in the Republican presidential race.
Sununu and Christie have been longtime friends and are two of the most vocal critics of the former President within the party. However, since his endorsement, Sununu has maintained that Christie did not have a way in which he could win the presidential nomination.
