(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Gordon Chang, a senior fellow from Gatestone Institute has warned that the upcoming meeting between President Biden and China’s President Xi Jinping should not take place.
During an appearance on Monday at “Mornings with Maria” Chang argued that in reality whether or not there is a communication mechanism in place the reality was that China only talked to them when it wanted to. He added that this is clearly a case where “we are fueling their military buildup” which is built in a way so as to kill Americans. He then pointed out that this was wrong in both a moral and strategic sense.
Chang also spoke about the impact that the meeting between Biden and X Jinping at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco would have. Previously the meeting had been characterized by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre as a place for “tough conversation” and “intense diplomacy.”
However, Chang disagreed with this assessment and argued that the nation was only open to having a meeting with the United States right now because their economic growth has dropped to levels lower than the ones it has been in decades.
He added that while in a theoretical sense, it is not a bad idea to talk with China about arms control, it is necessary that any agreement reached is going to be verifiable. He also pointed out that China has always been unwilling to discuss the size of its arsenal and that any unverifiable agreement would not serve the United States well.
