Chick-fil-A announced this week that they will stop giving charitable donations to groups that have been labeled “anti-LGBT” by the left’s intolerant activists. In an interview with Bisnow, company president Tim Tassopoulos said it was important to “be clear about who we are.”
“As Chick-fil-A expands globally and into more liberal parts of the U.S., the chicken chain plans to change which charities it donates to after years of bad press and protests from the LGBT community,” Bisnow reported. “Beginning next year, Chick-fil-A will move away from its current philanthropic structure, Bisnow has learned. After donating to more than 300 charitable organizations this year, the Atlanta-based fast-food chain will instead focus on three initiatives with one accompanying charity each: education, homelessness and hunger.”
On the one hand, you can understand why they’re making this decision. Their association with Christian groups like the Salvation Army, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Paul Anderson Youth Home has made them a target for protests, controversy, and it has even cost them some lucrative opportunities.
Just last month, the restaurant learned – after one day of being open – that their rental space in an English town would not be renewed due to all the backlash from the LGBT community. They’ve been unfairly saddled with this “anti-gay” reputation, and no company wants to carry around a burden that could hurt the bottom line.
Problem is, these groups likely depend heavily on Chick-fil-A’s charitable dollars. And there is absolutely nothing “anti-gay” about them. The Salvation Army certainly isn’t sponsoring your local gay pride parade, but they aren’t turning gay people away from their charity, now are they? Is there something wrong with subscribing to religious beliefs that don’t make room for every known perversion under the sun? God forbid an organization exist whose members believe – as was the norm for, oh, six-and-a-half-thousand years – that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Or hell, that we can even define what a man or a woman is.
But everything the left sets their sights on, they destroy. There’s absolutely no room for compromise. And ever since it came out that the company’s founder was against gay marriage, that was the end for Chick-fil-A as far as these intolerant sputtergaboons were concerned.
The thing is, does it really matter what they think? Chick-fil-A is one of the most popular fast-food joints in the country. And you can’t tell us that at least part of that popularity isn’t based on the fact that conservative, Christian Americans see in them the last vestiges of a country they actually recognize. A company that isn’t afraid to actually stand for something wholesome and decent and righteous. They’ve now surrendered that to the left. If they remake themselves into just another left-wing corporate chain, their exploding popularity may suffer as a result.
The left, after all, does not forgive easily.
