(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Thursday, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg took to the social media platform X to slam the pro-Palestinian protestors who had defaced public property in Washington, D.C., arguing that their opposition to the war in Gaza does not act as justification for supporting “terrorism.”

Buttigieg pointed out that the property outside Union Station had been defaced with Hamas slogans. He argued that these “passionate” disagreements are grounds for engaging in meaningful debates and protests but not for expressing support for terrorism and intimidation.

In his brief statement, Buttigieg did not make any reference to the flags that had been burned during the protests, which resulted in backlash from many Republicans and some Democrats.

On Wednesday, many demonstrators had gathered outside of Capitol Hill in protest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who was set to address Congress. Some of the demonstrators called for Netanyahu to be arrested and even lowered and burned two U.S. flags outside of Union Station. The flags were replaced by smaller Palestinian flags by the protesters.

The Freedom Bell, which is located outside Union Station, was also graffitied with several anti-Israel slogans, while a different monument near the train station had been graffitied with the statement “Hamas is coming.”

The New York Police Department, D.C. Metro Police, and the U.S. Park Police all responded to the protest and called for the protesters to disperse. On Thursday it was confirmed that Metro Police had made four arrests and the U.S. Park Police put at least eight people into custody.

The Washington Post, in its report, noted a total of 23 arrests that had been made during the anti-Netanyahu protests.
