As we head into the final 11 months of President Obama’s tenure, the cries for impeachment will likely be drowned out by the simple fact that the process would outlive his term. But if ever there was a reason to throw this bum out of the White House, a former Department of Homeland Security official may have given it to us. According to Patrick Haney, the Obama administration has hindered the nation’s intelligence-gathering agencies for the purposes of protecting Muslims.
In a column for The Hill, Haney wrote: “After leaving my 15-year career at DHS, I can no longer be silent about the dangerous state of America’s counter-terror strategy, our leaders’ willingness to compromise the security of citizens for the ideological rigidity of political correctness—and, consequently, our vulnerability to devastating, mass-casualty attack.”
Haney’s explosive allegations begin with a trip back to 2009, when Obama criticized Homeland Security officials for their “failure to connect the dots” in advance of a terrorist attack aboard a Northwest Airlines flight. While the would-be bomber – Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab – was thwarted by passengers, the president slammed the intelligence community for letting the plot get that far.
But according to Haney, it was Obama himself who made it impossible for intelligence officials to stop the attack. “His administration had been engaged in a bureaucratic effort to destroy the raw material — the actual intelligence we had collected for years, and erase those dots,” Haney wrote. “The dots constitute the intelligence needed to keep Americans safe, and the Obama administration was ordering they be wiped away.”
Why? If you believe Haney, the effort to “erase the dots” was authorized for the sake of political correctness. For a month leading up to the attempted attack, DHS officials instructed Haney to begin deleting hundreds of Muslims from the records, many of whom had ties to terrorist organizations like Hamas. Once those records were either erased or modified, counter-terrorism agents had much less information to work with when trying to prevent attacks.
“Enforcing a political scrubbing of records of Muslims greatly affected our ability to do that,” wrote Haney. “Even worse, going forward, my colleagues and I were prohibited from entering pertinent information into the database.”
If anyone comes forward to substantiate Haney’s claims, Obama could be on the verge of the most damning scandal of his presidency. If there is even the slightest truth to this story, he will have to face the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing and other stateside attacks and explain to them why he put Islam’s reputation before the lives of American citizens. The very fact that this is so easy to believe, given Obama’s public statements on terrorism, should be enough to trouble anyone still supporting this clown.
