(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) is pushing for Black elders to urge young Black voters to support President Joe Biden in the upcoming election. Clyburn, who is also the Biden campaign co-chair, told NOTUS that Black elders should try to “talk some sense” to younger voters.
These remarks were made after the recent data showed that Biden was not polling well with young Black voters. Former President Donald Trump has also received increased support among Black men ahead of the upcoming election.
In particular, young Black voters are disappointed in the response of the administration to the war in Gaza. At the same time, there are concerns about the economy, voting rights, and criminal justice reform which are top issues for Black voters.
Clyburn however seemed to be surprised at the idea that any Black voter would be backing Trump. In a recent speech, Trump claimed that he was the U.S. President who had done the most for Black people, with the only possible exception being President Lincoln. Clyburn opposed this view and argued that if people believed that, their parents should not have bothered to send them to school.
He further claimed that if Black voters support Trump, the former President will easily win in the upcoming election, which could lead to the country back to Jim Crow – an outrageous claim, to say the least.
Finally, he pointed out that one of the reasons young Black people might be interested in voting for Trump is because older Black Americans have not been speaking up enough about everything they endured before and during the Civil Rights Movement.
