(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – New House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) was quick at work launching an investigation into President Biden’s and his family’s business dealings.
As part of the probe Comer once again sent a request to the Treasury. Last year a similar request for information had been rejected by Treasure Secretary Janet Yellen. However, this year a new letter was sent to Yellen asking that the Treasury hand in all the information they currently have on Biden and his family’s finances. As part of the documents requested, Comer noted in the letter that any suspicious activity reports (SARs) should also be turned over.
Outside of the investigation, Comer has said that depending on their findings they would consider whether legislation limiting the activities that family members of elected officials can engage in is necessary.
Republicans have been vocal about their plans to investigate Biden and his family since before the 2022 midterm election. Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son, is of particular interest to the GOP because of his business dealings and the story regarding the information on his laptop.
Legislation on federal ethics laws, money laundering laws, and other regulations would also be examined and recommended appropriately based on the committee’s findings.
As part of the letter Comer set the deadline for the requested information as Jan. 25. However, it is not clear whether the Treasury will hand over all of the information. During the Democrat House majority, it had taken them four years to gain access to requested documents and the case had to be brought before the Supreme Court, therefore the request might unfold in a number of different ways.
