(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden addressed the nation, asking Americans to “lower the temperature in our politics.”
Speaking from the Oval Office, Bide highlighted that while Americans could disagree, they “are not enemies,” adding, “we’re neighbors… friends, coworkers, and citizens,” concluding that “most importantly we are fellow Americans” and should “stand together.”
Biden noted that the assassination attempt on Trump required “all of us to take a step back” and “take stock of where we are.”
The President also shared during his address that he is “grateful” Trump is “doing well,” adding that he is keeping the former President and “his family in our prayers,” while sharing his “deepest condolences” to Corey Comperatore’s family, who died while shielding his wife and daughters from the bullets.
Biden also used the opportunity to suggest the assassination attempt was the escalation of political violence that included the January 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol, an attack on former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, the 2020 attempted plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and the “intimidation of election officials.”
Biden noted there isn’t a “place in America for this kind of violence,” stressing that there are “No exceptions.”
While Biden acknowledged that “disagreement is inevitable” in a democracy and is “part of human nature,” incidents like the attempted assassination of Trump could not become “normalized.”
“Politics must never be a literal battlefield,” Biden stressed,” nor should it become a “killing field,” he concluded.
Trump was shot on Saturday during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A bullet from the gunman pierced the upper part of his right ear before Secret Service agents rushed the former President from the stage.
