Well, well, well… Just when you thought our border security couldn’t get any more porous, we’ve got Jordanian nationals playing dress-up as Amazon delivery drivers and attempting to break into a Marine Corps base. Is this the plot of a low-budget action movie or the reality of our national security? Buckle up, patriots, because this story is more alarming than finding a “Made in China” sticker on your American flag.
The Breach: A Comedy of Errors
On May 3, 2024, two Jordanian nationals, Hasan Y. Hamdan and Mohammad K. Dabous, decided to take a little joyride to Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia. Posing as Amazon delivery drivers, they attempted to breach the base’s security. Spoiler alert: it didn’t go as planned.
One of these aspiring intruders had crossed the southern border illegally just a month prior, while his partner in crime had overstayed a student visa. Apparently, their GPS took a wrong turn from “American Dream” to “Federal Offense.”
When asked for access credentials, our dynamic duo thought ramming their vehicle past the holding area was a brilliant Plan B. Fortunately, the base’s vehicle denial barriers proved more effective than our southern border, bringing their misadventure to a screeching halt.
The Aftermath: Misdemeanors and Mishandling
For their ill-conceived Amazon Prime imitation, Hamdan and Dabous now face Class B misdemeanor charges for trespassing on a military base. The potential penalties? Up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine. That’s one expensive delivery route.
“If this is what I strongly believe it is, a terror attack on a highly symbolic U.S. military base, … then this would be the very first terror attack on U.S. soil from somebody who crossed the border illegally.” – Todd Bensman
But here’s where the plot thickens: The Biden administration initially refused to provide the suspects’ names or confirm their immigration status, despite requests from Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and media inquiries. It seems transparency isn’t Prime eligible.
Congressional Concern: Homeland Security Committee Steps In
The House Committee on Homeland Security, not content with the administration’s silence, issued a letter to DHS, DOD, and FBI requesting information on the incident.
“The Committee on Homeland Security (Committee) is investigating the attempted breach of Marine Corps Base Quantico (MCB Quantico) by two individuals on May 3, 2024.” – House Committee on Homeland Security Chairmen
The committee’s concerns aren’t unfounded. There’s a history of similar incidents involving Chinese nationals, and FBI Director Christopher Wray has testified about elevated threats and the lack of complete communication from DHS to the FBI regarding certain border apprehensions.
The Bigger Picture: Border Security in Crisis
Since the beginning of the Biden administration, there has been a significant increase in illegal border crossings by individuals on the FBI’s terrorist watchlist. Critics argue that the current border policies prioritize the interests of potentially dangerous illegal aliens over national security.
“I’ve never seen a time where all the threats or so many of the threats are all elevated, all at exactly the same time.” – FBI Director Christopher Wray
This incident at Quantico is just the tip of the iceberg. It highlights the urgent need for stronger border security measures and better communication between federal agencies. As we continue to grapple with these challenges, one thing is clear: our national security is no laughing matter, even if some of the attempts to breach it seem like bad comedy.
