(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – A new photo of Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez smiling as House Republicans fail to elect a Speaker on the second day of the new Congress has gone viral on social media. The image was captured by photographer Anna Moneymaker and posted on Twitter following the 118th Congress’s second meeting. In the photo, Ocasio-Cortez can be seen laughing as Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz, who is one of the 20 defectors opposing Kevin McCarthy’s bid, makes a speech against McCarthy.
A Twitter user commented “AOC smiling in the background of the ongoing GOP dumpster fire,” drawing a comparison to the meme of the little girl smiling as she stands in front of a house fire.
Mike Goodwin, a lawyer, tweeted that there were a lot of things to be said about the “Old Masters-style composition of this photograph.”
Another Gen Z activist, Olivia Julianna, who last year managed to raise more than $1.5 million for abortion funds after Gaetz body-shamed her, tweeted out that she is “Living vicariously through @AOC right now.”
McCarthy has so far lost six consecutive votes and has failed to win the necessary support to become the Speaker of the House. So far, 20 House Republicans are opposing McCarthy’s nomination. Those defectors are some of the members of the ultraconservative Freedom Caucus.
As the GOP is facing the chaos of a Congress at a standstill, Ocasio-Cortez and many other Democrats have been accused of enjoying the chaos. Republican Representative Kat Cammack even went as far as to allege that Democrats were getting drunk during the voting.
