(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blasted the Biden administration for their new immigration policies, which have been called by many Democratic politicians “almost replications” of Trump-era policies.

Ocasio-Cortez had in 2019 been critical of Trump’s immigration policies noting that they were focused on “ethnicity and racism” rather than immigration. During her first town hall of 2023 on Saturday, Ocasio-Cortez spoke about the communication that her office and the White House had in recent months as they focus on getting migrants the right work authorizations in New York City.

The Congresswoman noted in order for all of the people being transported to New York City to be able to work, they would need Congress to take action. She added that the lack of federal support in letting these people work legally means that for six months to one year, these migrants are unable to work, and thus rely on public services, straining the resources available.

On Jan. 5 the Biden administration announced its new border enforcement measures. As part of these measures, 30,000 migrants with an eligible and vetted sponsor would be able to arrive in the U.S.A for two years in order to get work authorization. The measures also included an expanded parole process for Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, Haitians, and Cubans. Those who attempt to cross illegally into the country would no longer be allowed to gain access to the program.

The new security measures also seem to rely on Title 42, a Trump-era public health order which allowed the immediate expulsion of migrants. Under the new measures, Mexico has agreed to take 30,000 nationals from each country that are expelled under Title 42.
