(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – A monthly Harvard CAPS-Harris poll published on Friday found that 57 percent of Americans believe that if a new criminal indictment is filed against President Donald Trump then it would only add more drama to the 2024 presidential election.

The majority of Americans – 57 percent – also argued that another indictment could potentially damage Trump’s chances of winning a second term in office. These results come after Trump shared on Tuesday that on Sunday evening he had received a letter from special counsel Jack Smith in which he was informed that he was a target in the probe into his role in the Jan.6, Capitol riot that was also looking into Trump’s efforts to remain in the White House following the 2020 presidential results.

Following the announcement of the target letter, there were many who speculated that this likely means that another federal indictment would be made against Trump. Smith has already filed a 37 criminal count indictment over Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents following his exit from the White House in 2021. He is also following a separate criminal indictment on 34 counts of falsifying documents in New York State.

The poll also found that 57 percent of respondents believed that prosecutors would be able to bring forward a strong case against Trump in any case that relates to the 2020 presidential election. Still, respondents were equally split on whether Trump was responsible for the Capitol attack.

The survey was completed by 2,068 and it was conducted following Trump’s announcement about the target letter between July 19th and 20th.
