We have a new man at the head of the Justice Department, and he’s not blind to the lawlessness that has taken root in many of America’s rapidly-deteriorating cities. In his first speech since being confirmed as attorney general, Jeff Sessions vowed to put “every ounce of strength” he has towards “preserving and protecting the Constitution and the safety of this country.”
In a speech at the White House, Sessions spoke bluntly about the urban carnage the previous administration saw fit to ignore.
“We have a crime problem,” Sessions said. “I wish the rise that we are seeing in crime in America today were some sort of aberration or a blip, but my best judgment having been involved in criminal law enforcement for many years is that this is a dangerous permanent trend that places the health and safety of the American people at risk.
“We will deploy the talents and abilities of the Department of Justice in the most effective way possible to confront this rise in crime and to protect the people of our country,” he continued.
Sessions noted that domestic crime was only one of many problems his DOJ would be tasked to tackle.
“We have had an increased threat since I was United States attorney from terrorism,” he said. “We’re going to respond effectively to the threat of terrorism, and you can count on your Department of Justice to do so in an effective way.”
Additionally, Sessions said, the country could not stand by and watch foreigners make a mockery of the law.
“We must have a lawful system of immigration, one that serves the interests of the people of the United States,” he said. “That’s not wrong, that’s not immoral, that’s not indecent. We need to end this lawlessness that threatens the public safety and pulls down wages of working Americans.”
If anyone still needs reassurance that this country has put the era of dangerous political correctness behind us, they can find it in the man now running the Justice Department. And while it would be foolish to pretend that the left’s anti-American agenda is no longer a concern, it is a far less potent threat than it was three weeks ago.
We’re turning this ship around, and Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions know how to correct the course.
