There is a very strange story developing in Colorado. State Sen. Daniel Kagan (D) announced this week that he was resigning his post on January 11 after female colleagues accused him of using the women’s restroom in the Statehouse.
“It’s been a great honor to serve the people of Colorado for just short of a decade,” said Kagan in a statement. “An important obligation of leaders, I believe, is to be open to acknowledging that it’s time to pass the torch to new leadership and, for me, that time is now.”
Trouble began for Kagan when one of his Republican colleagues in the State Senate brought to light the fact that several women who work with Kagan had seen him ducking into the female restroom over the last couple of years. Sen. Beth Martinez Humenik subsequently filed a workplace sexual harassment complaint against Kagan, stemming from the allegations. Kagan said that he’s only used that bathroom one time, and even then it was a mistake owing to the fact that the door was unlabeled. After the original allegations came to light, the Senate put signs up designating the two bathrooms.
As we said, a very strange story. Not sure we’ve ever heard of a case of a public official resigning his post because he got caught using the wrong bathroom.
But what makes this all the stranger is that…doesn’t this go against everything the modern Democratic Party stands for? Why should Kagan apologize at all, much less resign? Isn’t that the big culture fight of the last two years, that gender is a self-chosen conception that can change on a daily – if not hourly – basis? What if Sen. Kagan felt like a woman when he went into that bathroom? Would that make it okay? From everything we’ve heard from the social justice warriors, that seems to be the case, no? Or does Kagan have to make a public announcement every time his gender shifts? Not sure.
We’re being facetious, of course. It is verifiably NOT okay for some pervy Democrat to go lurking around in the women’s bathroom, and Democrats damn well know it. Just as they damn well know that it wouldn’t make a shred of difference if Kagan considered himself “transgender” and put on a dress. He’s still a man, and he would still have no business in the wrong bathroom.
A situation like this really shines a light on how absurd this whole transgender “rights” thing really is, but we doubt very seriously if anyone on the left will notice.
