As we predicted a long time ago, Special Counsel Robert Mueller is treating his investigation as though it were his own personal playpen. Democrats are counting on this fellow to come up with something, and they know that a guilty verdict against Paul (who?) Manafort isn’t going to cut it for their voters. They want a big fish. They want Donald Trump. And if Mueller has to investigate every single moment of Trump’s life from the time he bought his first building to the time he ordered two scoops of ice cream at dinner, he’s going to do it.
Just look at this new report from the Washington Post, where it is said that Mueller is now investigating – wait for it – Trump’s criticism of Attorney General Jeff Sessions from last summer!? Wait, now it’s a crime for a president to express disappointment in one of his Cabinet officials? Man, the things you learn when a special counsel is on the hunt.
Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III has been investigating a period of time last summer when President Trump seemed determined to drive Attorney General Jeff Sessions from his job, according to people familiar with the matter who said that a key area of interest for the inquiry is whether those efforts were part of a months-long pattern of attempted obstruction of justice.
In recent months, Mueller’s team has questioned witnesses in detail about Trump’s private comments and state of mind in late July and early August of last year, around the time he issued a series of tweets belittling his “beleaguered” attorney general, these people said. The thrust of the questions was to determine whether the president’s goal was to oust Sessions in order to pick a replacement who would exercise control over the investigation into possible coordination between Russia and Trump associates during the 2016 election, these people said.
Now of course we have to take this with the usual “it’s WaPo” grain of salt. If you believed everything that came out of their anonymous government sources, you’d think that Trump has a secret villa in East Moscow that he travels to every other weekend for a crazy romp with Vladimir Putin and a bevy of Russian escorts.
Be that as it may, we don’t have much trouble believing that Mueller is indeed questioning people about Trump’s attitude towards Sessions, which shows you just how little faith we have in this supposed man of integrity. As far as we’re concerned, Mueller showed his true colors right off the bat when he outfitted his team with nothing but Democrat donors and friends of Hillary Clinton. This was never about Russian interference. This was and is about taking down a duly-elected President of the United States by any means necessary.
And it’s gone on just about long enough.
