You can always count on a liberal to take things a little too far. Though they claim that one of their primary tenets is the right to free speech, they never seem particularly eager to protect those they disagree with. Such is the case with Robert Kennedy, Jr., one of the climate change movement’s most extreme supporters. In an interview with Climate Depot at last weekend’s Manhattan climate march, Kennedy let his extraordinarily authoritarian opinions be known.
“I wish there were a law you could punish them with,” Kennedy said. “I don’t think there is a law that you can punish these politicians under, [but they’re] selling out the public trust.”
Kennedy isn’t involved with politics on any official level, thank God, but he does have a radio show presumably at least a few people have heard. It’s frightening to think that a man with his warped vision of the world has any influence at all. Not content with merely jailing the opposition, he went a step further, falling headfirst into conspiracy theory territory.
“Those guys are doing the Koch brothers bidding and are against all the evidence of the rational mind, saying global warming does not exist. They are contemptible human beings.” He went on to accuse the conservative billionaires of treason, indicating that they were making themselves rich at the expense of the rest of the country. “Do I think the Koch brothers should be tried for reckless endangerment? Absolutely.”
This isn’t the first time Kennedy has wanted his philosophical opponents locked in jail. In 2007, he said that skeptics of climate change were guilty of treason and should be treated as the traitors they were. He has also expressed that coal companies were nothing more than criminal enterprises.
Surprisingly, Kennedy does not have a documented history of mental illness. He has, however, been called out on a few occasions for being a complete hypocrite. Only a few years ago, Variety magazine ran a story on his Malibu home, a $5 million compound that undoubtedly carries with it one whopper of an electric bill. He is also known for flying around in a carbon-spewing private jet.
Worst of all, Kennedy is part owner of three oil companies. Maybe there should be a way to punish blowhard environmentalists who say one thing before doing another.
In the end, the story is as it always has been. Even as far as the top scientists are concerned, the science regarding man-made climate change is far from settled. Some recent studies have shown that the predicted effects of global warming are mysteriously absent from our current observations. This is a media event above all else. Unfortunately, the growing hysteria over theoretically-rising temperatures has given liberal politicians carte blanche to increase government regulations on business and transportation.
Let the studies continue, but let’s stop giving idiots like Kennedy a live mic. We’re never going to get to the bottom of our planet’s future while whackadoo laymen are leading the charge.
