The media, for no other apparent reason than it gives them yet another weapon with which to attack President Donald Trump, has been extremely critical of the drug hydroxychloroquine and its capabilities in the fight against the coronavirus. Reporters have given extraordinary weight to any anecdotes and studies that downplay the effectiveness of the drug, and they’ve ignored any studies and anecdotes that tout the medication’s promise. And throughout, they’ve savagely attacked Trump for promoting the anti-malarial drug.
But we’re inclined to listen to Michigan State Rep. Karen Whitsett, a Democrat who has no reason on earth to praise the president. Not only is it political poison for a Democrat to praise Trump, but Whitsett is risking the bad side of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who has used the coronavirus as an opportunity to bash Trump constantly and throw her name onto Joe Biden’s shortlist for a running mate. If Whitsett is giving Trump credit, she must have a very good reason for doing so.
As it turns out, she does.
From the Detroit Free Press:
State Rep. Karen Whitsett, who learned Monday she has tested positive for COVID-19, said she started taking hydroxychloroquine on March 31, prescribed by her doctor, after both she and her husband sought treatment for a range of symptoms on March 18.
“It was less than two hours” before she started to feel relief, said Whitsett, who had experienced shortness of breath, swollen lymph nodes, and what felt like a sinus infection. She is still experiencing headaches, she said.
Whitsett said she was familiar with “the wonders” of hydroxychloroquine from an earlier bout with Lyme disease, but does not believe she would have thought to ask for it, or her doctor would have prescribed it, had Trump not been touting it as a possible treatment for COVID-19.
“It has a lot to do with the president … bringing it up,” Whitsett said. “He is the only person who has the power to make it a priority.”
Asked whether she thinks Trump may have saved her life, Whitsett said: “Yes, I do,” and “I do thank him for that.”
Well well well. How about that.
Maybe instead of constantly looking for reasons to disprove President Trump, the mainstream media should actually consider the possibility that he knows what he’s talking about. After all, Trump is far from the only one touting the benefits of this drug as it relates to defeating the coronavirus. Has it ever occurred to the liberal reporters in the press that they may be doing the country a grave disservice by treating everything out of Trump’s mouth as a lie? Do they even care?
