Critics were calling to defund National Public Radio after the editor of the taxpayer-funded network admitted Thursday that they were not reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop story…and that they have no intention of doing so in the future.
“Why haven’t you seen any stories from NPR about the NY Post’s Hunter Biden story? Read more in this week’s newsletter,” tweeted the editor.
If you follow the link to the newsletter, you’re treated to a long explanation from the Poynter Institute’s Kelly McBride.
“There are many, many red flags in that New York Post Investigation,” she writes. “NPR Media Correspondent David Folkenflik detailed most of them … Intelligence officials warn that Russia has been working overtime to keep the story of Hunter Biden in the spotlight. Even if Russia can’t be positively connected to this information, the story of how Trump associates Steve Bannon and Rudy Giuliani came into a copy of this computer hard drive has not been verified and seems suspect. And if that story could be verified, the NY Post did no forensic work to convince consumers that the emails and photos that are the basis for their report have not been altered.”
That may be true…but doesn’t that leave the door open for other journalists (oh, say, NPR!) to go behind them and do that work? Isn’t that what investigative journalism is supposed to be about? Why not try to go after this story’s roots instead of sitting back and throwing peanuts at the New York Post?
Oh, it’s because you don’t want to accidentally uncover something that might be damaging to Joe Biden. The same reason the mainstream media did everything possible to ignore the Tara Reade accusation. If the story is anti-Biden, it must somehow be Russian propaganda.
That’s your story and you’re sticking with it.
With less than two weeks to go until the election, we’ve given up any hope whatsoever of seeing the media actually do their jobs. Not that we had much to begin with. They have turned their biased coverage of the 2016 race up to 11. The only mistake they think they made in THAT election was to actually cover the Hillary Clinton email story. Now, they’re determined not to make the same “mistake” of reporting on unfavorable Biden stories. This is a all-hands-on-deck effort to get Trump out of office, and the media is willing to sacrifice any remaining credibility to make it happen.
Well, guys, we certainly hope it’s worth it.
