Only time will tell whether Michael Cohen, convicted perjurer, told the truth about President Donald Trump when he appeared before Congress on Wednesday. Many of the accusations he made against his former boss were of such a nebulous, esoteric quality that they will never be proven one way or the others. Others may indeed prove to be true, but the “criminal” nature of the accusations is a long way short of the Russian collusion theories that have been floating in Democrat circles for the last two years. At most, it seems that Trump would have to pay a fine to the FCC. Big whoop.
But regardless of Cohen’s honesty when it pertains to Trump’s activities, we know to a certainty that he lied about at least one thing on the stand this week. When House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Rep. Jim Jordan suggested that the only reason Cohen was turning on Trump was that he was sore that he didn’t get a White House position, Cohen said that was the furthest thing from his mindset.
“I did not want to go to the White House,” he insisted. “I was offered jobs.”
Ah, but Cohen must have forgotten that he already told CNN in 2016 that he was willing, able, and raring to go to Washington is and when the moment came that Donald Trump asked him to be by his side.
“Oh, I certainly hope so,” he said when asked if he would take a job with President Trump. “A hundred percent.”
He must have also forgotten that there were others within the campaign who would know that Cohen had his heart set on a White House position.
“Michael was lobbying EVERYONE to be ‘Chief of Staff,’” tweeted Eric Trump on Wednesday. “It was the biggest joke in the campaign and around the office. Did he just perjure himself again?”
Don Jr. said the same. “Nailed it,” he tweeted in response to his brother. “It really was the biggest joke of the entire transition. The beginning of his bitterness was when he realized that was never going to happen. #Delusional.”
Cohen’s dishonesty not only proves that he’s still willing to lie to Congress but that he has a motive to turn on the President of the United States. Even if his prison sentence is unlikely to get a day shorter thanks to his collaboration with the Democrats, he can go to jail knowing that he plunged the knife into his former boss’s back. And now we know why he did it.
Bury this thug under the jail and be done with him.
