There’s plenty of disagreement on small matters of policy when it comes to Joe Biden and the rest of the Democratic field; these disagreements allow Biden to posture as a moderate when compared to his more extremist competitors. But while Biden may not be ready to scrap Obamacare in favor of fully socialized medicine, and he may not want to decriminalize the border, he definitely has more in common with the rest of the Democrats on the stage than he does with anyone reasonably branding themselves a moderate/centrist.
For instance, what kind of moderate would want to take away the voters’ tax cuts?
At an Iowa rally this weekend, Biden said that his supporters could count on one thing: He would repeal the tax cuts put in place by Trump and the Republicans. This, he said, would let the federal government spend more money on healthcare and other important agenda issues. We assume this means we can get back to funneling our money to the third world under the terms of the Paris Climate Agreement. And hey, if there’s enough left over, we can go back to paying Iran to flaunt the nuclear weapons deal! There’s ALL KINDS of fun stuff we can do with the money from hard-working taxpaying citizens.
“By eliminating just a few of the tax cuts – I’m going to eliminate mostly all of them – but a few of the tax cuts, we – you think I’m joking, but I’m not,” Biden said when the crowd snickered. “If you know anything about me and taxes…”
Yeah, we know a thing or two about you and taxes, Joe.
And even if we didn’t, we could figure it out from the way you’re talking about them now. For instance, we know that you’re carrying Pelosi’s “crumbs” rhetoric, even after it has been debunked by even left-wing media sources. Last year, single parents were able to keep more than $1,300 in their bank accounts thanks to the Trump tax cuts. You think that’s not going to be on the minds of the white working class voters who you’re supposedly campaigning to bring back to the Democratic Party?
Oh, but no, you say these tax cuts were just a break for the wealthy, paid for by stealing from the middle class. It’s nonsense. It’s not true.
“Look, Donald Trump has put in a horrible situation, we do have enormous income inequality,” Biden said in June. “The one thing I agree on is we can make massive cuts in the $1.6 trillion dollars in tax loopholes out there, and I would be going about eliminating Donald Trump’s tax cuts for the wealthy.”
Alas, it’s a lie. The average family making a middle-of-the-road income got a tax cut of more than $1,000.
That may be “crumbs” to Pelosi and Biden, but it makes a big difference when you’re watching every bill that comes in the mail.
