If there was anything the mainstream media got wrong in 2018 (other than, you know, that whole thing about the president being a traitor), it was in judging the character of Michael Avenatti. The Creepy Porn Lawyer exploded onto the scene in the early months of the year, and he just….wouldn’t…go…away. Racking up more total TV time than some CNN hosts, Avenatti appeared on show after show to talk about his client, Stormy Daniels, and how they were going to take down Trump together.
And in the meantime, high on a wave of instant fame, Avenatti even began talking seriously about running against Trump in 2020. And why not? The guy could do no wrong.
But the faster they climb, the faster they fall. And it’s been a while since we’ve seen someone fall from grace as quickly and as disastrously as Michael Avenatti.
“Michael Avenatti, the attorney who rocketed to fame through his representation of porn star Stormy Daniels in her battles with President Donald Trump, was charged Wednesday with ripping her off,” reported the AP. “Federal prosecutors in New York City say Avenatti used a doctored document to divert about $300,000 that Daniels was supposed to get from a book deal, then used the money for personal and business expenses. Only half of that money was paid back, prosecutors said.”
Avenatti, as usual, is denying that he did anything wrong.
“No monies relating to Ms. Daniels were ever misappropriated or mishandled. She received millions of dollars worth of legal services and we spent huge sums in expenses. She directly paid only $100.00 for all that she received. I look forward to a jury hearing the evidence,” he wrote on Twitter.
But first, juries will have to hear other evidence. Like about his attempt to extort more than $20 million from Nike. Or about the charges against him in Los Angeles, where he is accused of defrauding his clients of millions of dollars over the years. Either this guy is one of the most unfairly persecuted individuals in the history of this country…
…or, he’s exactly the kind of scumbag we knew he was from the very beginning.
